looking at the rhino 660 and comparable Ranger...

dad's wanting something new and can't make up his mind, i know alot of the plusses/minuses of each, but give me your own ideas.... how do each do in mud ? top end speed ? etc..... What's easiest to mechanic on ? reliability ? manuveuribility ? noise (before you laugh, i've ridden a rhino before and may have imagined it, but it was the loudest ride i've ever been on....)?

Well I have never been in the Rhino but a budy of mine has a Ranger and like all other Polaris's its loud also. He loves it and it is strong we put a 16ft center console duck boat in and out of one of our duck holes with it. Also think about the bucket seats in the Rhino vs. the Bench seat in the Ranger the bucket seats are nice if there will only be 2 people riding in it but there is always the little one who wants to ride or the 3rd gun for the morning hunt. Also the Ranger has a bigger cargo bed I believe but I am not sure, but all in all I just dont like anything Polaris makes but maybe just maybe they have turned things around

I've got a Ranger 6X6 with nearly 300 hours on it and it has been a good trouble free machine. The Ranger is more stabe and less likely to turn over. With a full cab and doors, it is great in the winter and hot as heck in the summer. If I were going to buy a new one today, it would be another Ranger 6X6.

Tell him I said to just get an old CJ and put some good rubber on it. Would cost thousands less, be way less pussified and hold way more schit.

Seriously, I drove that Rhino at camp and didn't like it. Never driven a Ranger, so the Rhino may have been like driving a Cadillac and I just didn't know it. I do know that Rhino factory rubber won't cut it.

i've had a CJ before, the ole willys is a much better piece of machinery......

guess i should've added this, this is strictly dad's toy, not mine, and he's not a duck hunter, only deer, so whichever machine we get wont' really be going through much standing water, however, the deer camp is on the Mississippi river in the bottoms, so lots of river bottom gumbo....

the rhino go through more probably, never ridin one but the ranger is bigger with a bigger bed so that might be better for deer huntin. the rhino is more off road capable.

Check out the Artic cat 650--I may be wrong but I think it is faster, has more low end torque, and more ground clearance. My uncle just got one. It is pretty nice. I am a honda man personally, but I liked his alot. There is a place in Columbus that has a test track behind their place.

There is not any storage space on the rhino. The ranger is more stable. Will hold twice the stuff and ride 3 people. There is no comparison if you are going to deer hunt and work on food plots, clearing roads, all kinds of stuff. I think the rhino is a little more sporty so if you were riding trails with the buds on the weekends would be the only way I could see buying one over the ranger. There is an old man in our camp that put pulleys on the top rack and runs his winch cable over the cab to the bed. He can pull a deer up into the bed without any help. He also keeps a 12' jon boat on top and loads and unloads it the same way. this machine made him independent again.

check out the kawasaki mule. my uncle has one that gets used and abused duck and deer hunting. it has been really tough and pull anything, especially the diesel model.

The Kawasaki Mule or the Kobota is the only way to go.

My vote in the Rhino. My hunting partner has one, and the independent suspension is wonderful on bumpy roads. Won't get stuck in sand either.

The Kobota dealer here in town told me that if I was getting this to hunt in really wet conditions, I need to look at something else. They are selling ALOT of them, but they just don't think Kobota inteneded for them to be in water all the time. Trans is not ready for gumbo and water. Kobota is good stuff, but was probaly marketing their ride to farmers and then hunters jumped on it and they put a camo package out.

The Ranger is definately the way to go. Being able to carry 3 people and a dog, plus all that space in the back, and the vehicle will not even know you've got it loaded. I've put over 500 hours on mine, & it is one fine machine. I spend a lot of time in the water & sever mud & it goes very well. I hardly ever ride my Honda 450 anymore. I'm not real wild about the Polaris belt drive; however, the only problem I've had was self inflicted......too deep water. It goes very well.
