My brother is making some duck blinds and deer stands. Ordered some metal and I can't beleive how much it has gone up since last year. Some of these 20 ft tripod deer stands have 900 worth of metal. Unbeleivable.

last year?

I work at a fabrication yard and price steel all day long, there was a spurt at the beginning of this year to where if you priced out steel one day, you HAD to go back for another price the following day to get current prices. Prices were changing daily and always up the price scale.

So yep, steel prices are high. Now if your making tripods or sleds, just use mechanical tubing instead of square tubing or pipe. Mechanical tubing is MUCH cheaper

Yeah I order steel everyday and the prices are actually down just alittle compared to what it has been. But everything is going up again.

check out: http://www.tubularsteel.com/products_se ... tubing.asp

mechanical tubing can be either very light wall or very thick wall.

It's different than ANSI or API schedules.

Another option is to look into as-welded pipe. Something like a ERW (electronic resistance welded) such as A-53 grade.
