Ohhhhhhhh.........I could've been bad yesterday

Postby Greenhead22 » Wed Dec 06, 2006 3:58 pm

I could've easily been a cut throat, no good sob yesterday morning.

A buddy and I were hunting yesterday morning when three mallards came in, 2 drakes and a hen. The ducks come in from my side, and I could've easily taken both drakes, but I let them come on around into the dekes. I pick off the rear drake, then as I get on the other drake, my friend drops him. I sent Rowdy, and he brings it back. I flip it around to put on the duck tote, and all I get to see is silver jewelry. Oh the thoughts that went through my mind, especially since my buddy had no idea about the band. Heck, I had to show him the duck 3 or 4 times before he never noticed it.

He then asked who shot it because he wasn't paying attention to what bird Rowdy picked up first. I was like.......ummmm.......errrr...........ummmm.....you did. It his first band ever in 27 yrs of hunting, so I guess he was more deserving than I was. I submitted the band # online, banded in Aug 2000 in Saskatchewan.

I'm not going to ever invite anyone unless I can pretty much guarantee them a limit. We had birds for two days, then they left. I bet we didn't see 50 birds yesterday, reason I didn't even get up and hunt this morning. That's ok though, will be heading out for arkieland in a little while.

You did the right thing, every time you would see that band from now on you'd know it really wasn't yours.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

GC done lied to you !!!

Well, it's like I told my buddy. I'd venture to bet at least 75% of the people that have been or would have been in the position I was in yesterday would've cut the band off or swapped ducks. If I had done that, I would've never forgiven myself. I'm just glad that I was keeping an eye on which duck rowdy picked up first instead of the ducks that were cupped overhead. If I hadn't, I would've sworn that bird was the one I shot because when I pulled the trigger feathers went everywhere. The duck I killed wasn't missing a one though.

http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/bblretrv/webrec.cfm

You can submit the info online, just follow the directions. At the very end of the process, it will give you some information about the bird that will be on the certificate.......date banded.....location, etc.

Most all of the banded ducks I've killed came from Laurel, Maryland.

Funny you say that, i have a friend who is a complete idiot and has killed a few bands and when ever asked where they came from he always responds with Laurel, Maryland. It funny to miss with him because he'll get pissed and swear by it.
Take it easy and if its easy take it home.

We had a retard from South Carolina in our old club in Arky. He thought the same thing, that Laurel Maryland was where they banded all of the ducks. He even went as far as checking out guide service in Maryland. :? You would think that if a jackass is gonna spend $2,500 a year to be in a club he would at least know where our ducks came from.
