Ole Miss finds extra yard, Green-Ellis hits 1,000

OXFORD — After further review, Ole Miss running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis has reached the 1,000-yard rushing mark.

Langston Rogers, Ole Miss’ senior associate athletic director for media relations, confirmed this morning that the junior — who was credited with 999 yards when the season ended — has become the third player in school history to reach the 1,000-yard mark. He said a thorough review of game film revealed a mistake on an official spot during one play in Ole Miss’ 23-17 loss to Auburn on Oct. 8, which should’ve credited Green-Ellis with an extra yard.

“We realized a mistake had been made and our official scorer, I sat down with him and I wanted him to see it and give me his opinion,” Rogers said. “In his opinion, there was an error on the spot and we corrected it.”

Rogers said the revelation was part of a long process in which the Ole Miss film staff reviewed tape of Green-Ellis’ carries this year.

When the Auburn spot was discovered, Rogers met with the official scorer and reviewed the play from both the coaching video and the television replay. After both felt the spot was a mistake, the NCAA and Southeastern Conference were informed and agreed to the change.

Green-Ellis now finishes the season with 1,000 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 234 carries.

It has been updated on Ole Miss’ Web site, but not the NCAA’s or SEC’s, yet.

“This isn’t anything uncommon,” Rogers said. “You have corrections made every week to the NCAA.”

same thing was done by state for either discenzo or dontae a few years ago.... believe it was miller..... believe the season was 2000....... and believe they not only found the 1 yard he needed, but 5 more to give him 1005 to surpass someone on the all time state list or something

This is bogus! First let me say I don't care who he plays for. They went all the way back to the Auburn game to find this yard. Why wasnt it found earlier?? And am I supposed to believe that in their review of 12 games that he didn't get a single spot that was a little generous? The NCAA says they make these corrections all the time....Has there EVER been a correction that hurt the stats of a player??

That being said the guy is a good running back and should have gotten a few more carries so he could legitimately reach 1,000 yards.

what else do you expect from ole piss, I'm not even sure if they still teach math there. If they do its that new math, you know whatever number I want it to be that's what it is. All I can say about that is Go Eagles.

That's about right. Along with their national championship signs at their stadium. Typical um bs.

RebelYelp,
I don't say too much, because I know that we don't have any room to talk, but quoting yourself is a new low! Just let it go man, let it go. :D

It don't make a damned bit of difference.

BJGE is one of the best RBs in the SEC, and will be a force to be reckoned with in 2007. He is a serious, determined, hard-working, high character young man who did not push for the school to find that extra yard. He blames no one but himself for not reaching the 1000 yard mark (without the assistance of a review of game tape). And, regardless, he would trade those yards for wins any time. BJGE is a winner on and off the field and will make a lot of money one day in the NFL. And he will graduate from UM with a business degree --- he is a pretty smart young man and will be successful at whatever he does, even after football. He is already a great ambassador for UM and I am glad the Rebs have him on our team. I wish we had several more like him.

bully, it was either quote myself, or re-type it...... personally... if Gilreath had read the entire thread, instead of just the first post, he would have seen that his beloved bullpups did the same exact thing a few years ago, and therefore would not have even been necessary to quote myself..... at least, I hope he read the thread, and didn't call out Ole Miss for doing the same thing his beloved pups did a few years ago, when he knew they did it.....

huh; that's hard facts worth quoting?

Any-who, BJGE is a great talent at the running back position, and seems to be a good character--ya'll should be pleased to have him.

Also, if the bulldogs are so terrible, you might not want to use a half-arsed example of our mstate doing the same thing (maybe) seven years ago to justify something that is all to commonplace at UM.

the FACT was that MSU did the same thing..... the OR SOMETHING was pertaining to the exact yardage he gained.... and at what point did i say the bulldogs were terrible ?
