Tough old bird

Looks like the blizzard up north has pushed more birds our way. I counted 67 canvasbacks on one pond at Isola yesterday. I rarely see that many cans together unless a serious front has come through and water up north is locked up tight.
I managed to sneak to within 20 yards of several prime bulls this afternoon, but the durn things were impervious to my 3" #2 shot. After carefully picking out a lone drake and flushing them all, I failed to knock him down with a direct hit at 30 yards. I fired on another drake with the same results. I do believe I'll switch to BB or larger the next time I jump shoot the King of Divers. But what a beautiful sight to see so many black, white and crimson birds streaking through the drizzle and fog on Christmas day!
