Anyone know why Wal-Mart is getting out of the gun and ammo business? Don't care much for the guns, but have been in a bind and needed some shells and Wal-Mart was the only thing open. What you see is the last of them.

Here is the story behind Wal-Mart Guns, Gil. In the blind sat morning ole Bill's gun freezes up. He has sprayed camo in the action. He brakes out for Wal-Mart to get a 870 and they have no guns. They have quit selling guns and ammo as a chain. He goes to Smith Bros. and $1,400.00 bucks later has a new an improved firing iron. All this thanks to a bottle of wine and some spray camo shat.

Boycott them and you won't have that problem. I support the local guys as much as possible. I have vowed to NEVER step in a Wal-Mart again as long as I live. Light me on fire and dump me in their parking lot and I'm going somewhere else for water. If they ever discover they can make more money supporting green peace they will do it as money is ALL they care about. Did I mention I hate Wal-Mart?

Many complain that Wal-Mart puts other smaller businesses out of business. Well, even though that is more myth than fact, the fact that WM will no longer be selling guns and ammo should help those local sporting goods businesses. Isn't that a good thing?

The bottom line is that the profit margins on the guns and ammo are just not that high, and these items are not big enough sellers to justify all the headaches associated with selling them --- lots of paperwork now just to sell a gun. Ammo is very heavy and takes up a lot of shelf space. WM's not selling guns and ammo has nothing to do with politics.

And when WM did carry the guns and ammo, you guys fussed because every now and then someone would be running the register in the sporting goods department that knew nothing about the products. Of course, anyone going to WM for hunting product advice should know better, but I digress. You didn't stop to think that the cost savings might outweigh the lack of service.

There are still plenty of places that sell guns and ammo. I personally have not had a problem in that regard, nor do I know any serious hunter who has.

I beleive walmart is still going to carry guns and ammo in some of the rural stores. I work in a retail business selling guns and what pomonk said about the markups not being much is true. Stores do not make much money off of the guns (the gun makers are making all the money) and it is a big hassel selling guns.

I bought my 870 at Wally World 5or6 years ago. No problem with the help or anything!

They are still going to carry guns for now, the reason most of the stores are not carrying them any more is because 20% of the stores were selling 80% of the guns so rather than outfitting every store with guns they cut 1600 stores (that were not generating that much profit anyway in firearms) and came out way ahead because now instead of buying 2000 Ruger 10/22's for stock they only buy 400 and are still selling almost as much as they were before. They are about to cut that number down by 800 stores though. To tell you the truth I'm glad to see it to, maybe bring back some of the mom and pop sporting good stores that we all miss from back in the day.

Yeah, some executive from Wal Mart was on MSNBC a few months ago saying select stores will still carry them, but many will still carry ammo. Makes sense to me; why sell guns in downtown Miami or NY, NY? I don't see what the big deal is anyway. If we don't go to Wal Mart, we'll just go to Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas or another big box retailer to find the best deals.

He bought a SBE II instead. Always heard if you got CENTS its optional to have sense. This guy def got way more of one than the other.
I don't really care about WalMart just curious. I was kinda wondering if that might have a big sale! I shop looking for deal and less hassle. Needless to say I try to avoid WalMart due to high volume of swooves and dumb arses, but sometimes you need some windshield wipers and a loaf of bread in one trip. Convenience is a plus. I try to do most my shopping at the Mean Mallard or Van's.
