Wormer from the Co-op.
Anybody use wormer from the co-op. I am about to stop by and get some more and was wondering if there was a certain kind any of you use?

when we were raising sheep, we used the horse wormer on the sheep and also on my Anatolian Shepards without any problems. But I would check with the vet for dosage.
You aren't supposed to use the wormer on any shepard or dog with white on their feet (collie). But the Anatolian Shepard is not a shepard but kin the the Great Pyranees guard dogs.
And they did their job....5 skunks (w/o getting sprayed), 4 possoms, 1 coyote (stupid thing had a chance), 1 stray dog chasing sheep and 1 raccoon!
Sorry for ramblin.

One of my Labs got HW's last year on Interceptor. I am now using Ivermectin for cattle and swine. (get it at the co-op) It is an injectable but it is given orally. Ivermec is the same ingredient in Hartgaurd. I dose it 1ml per 110 pds of body weight. I buffer it with propylene glycol (get it at the drug store) at a 4 to 1 ratio. 20ml of ivermec with 80 ml of propylene glycol. to make a 100 ml bottle. Dose should be 1ml per 20 lbs of body weight.
I dose twice a month and my dogs have been HW free for about a year now. Just squirt it on a piece of bread and feed it to them. This is a much higher dose of ivermec than that in hartguard. Before using, get your dog checked and make sure it's HW free and don't give it to any herding dogs like collies. I figure you probably have some kind of retriever so you ought to be just fine.
Oh I just found this site. I run labs in HT and FT's. I also like to kill as many ducks as I can to keep the dawgs busy in the winter.
Hope this helps,
Kirk

Thanks. I was referring to the yellow wormer pill for round worms and hook worms. Just regular wormer not for heart worms. I am still using heartguard, or actually the generic heartguard. We use to use ivermectin and I am thinking about switching back. I had beagles and it was the most cost effiecent for the labs and beagles at the time. Then everyone said I needed to use heartguard and I got tired of chasing beagles.
I keep fans in the kennels once skeeters start arriving to try and help out. Also has anyone ever had a dog that got heart worms twice?

I don't know about down in Jackson, but up here I hardly know of any dogs, and I mean well taken care of competition dogs that havent gotten HW's. Heck, my vet's dog got them. His dog was on hartguard. Yes I know of a few that have gotten them more than once. It is really tough on a dog. Best to catch them early or not get them at all.
Both Interceptor and Hartguard have proven records of not working. I'm sticking with Ivermec, not cause it's cheaper but because it works. Although, there have been some cases around here of dogs becoming infected on Ivermec. Like I said, I dose twice a month all year long and keeping my fingers crossed.

Actually, I'm picking her up at the grand this weekend for a few weeks and she is going North with Steve for the summer.
Any thoughts?
Jeff
