Entergy envelopes this time of year. Friggin' electric bill is twice what it was two months ago and I barely used more electricity. 80 to 135 to 160. Price per kilowatt must have gone up because I used less electricity than the same month last year and it cost a lot more this year. Just warning you folks with the big houses. Might want to have a drink or two before you open this month's bill. D@mn monopoly!

Move to Leland and you can really biotch. No lights on, no fans, A/C on 75-78 and still you get a 300+ energy bill. This is on a 1800(guess) sq. ft. house 400 of which we closed off with little to no electricity. the first week i moved home i got the energy bill and went ape chit.

THAT FIRST BILL THAT WAS OVER 300 HAS YOUR DEPOSIT FIGURED IN???

Sounds like you need more insulation in your attic. Go upstairs and measure how much material is in the attic. Here's a guide:

Does the house have aluminum clad windows? They transfer a lot of heat from the sun. More than other windows.

Also, a central air conditioning system is not designed to be run effeciently with parts of the house closed off. Air has got to be able to circulate, you could even consider adding an additional air return to help with this. You didn't specify window units/central air.

merlebo05 no that's just the monthy bill here. It's a private owned energy source so they can do what they wish with the price per KW.


Wildfowl yes we have enough "insulation" in the attic. Had the A/c man come check that and do other "stuff". Central Heat/Air. The room that's closed off is an "add" on that we have installed an Window unit in. Running it to cool that room will raise the bill another hundred easy.

It's been a fight with them for several years. I'm just waiting to see what this months bill is like. We have dogs in the back yard so they "guestimate" the actual usage. And no they want work with you so that you can put your dogs up, i've asked.

Give me a couple mths and i'll have ya'll away to subsidize yo Entergy bill. We'll let mother nature produce for ya. I'll keep ya posted on this venture.

Most coops dont raise thier rates ,what they have is a energy cost adjustment,which means as the cost of energy goes up so does the adjustment.
When the cost comes down so does the adjustment.what they dont show on the bill most of the time is the actual dollar amount of the adjustment it is just added to the total of your bill.
It will usually have somewhere on your bill energy cost. .030 or something and kinda leave it for you to figure.
Most of them right now are running about 30.00 per 1000 kw used.
Also,this has been one of the hottest months we have faced and im sure the air is running more than you think.
FEW ENERGY SAVING TIPS
1-Dont turn your air completly off when you leave turn it up to 75 or 80 and then back down gradually when you get home.(turning off air and on when you get home will cause a/c to run longer than if you had just turned it up a little. Cause when you home and turn it on the a/c has to cool down all the furniture ,windowsand walls before it can cool the air.)
2-Keep the filters changed monthly.
3-About every 3 months unplug refridgerator and freezer and vacum under them.(lots of dust gets under there and blocks the air flow causing them to work harder.)
4-If you can read your meter every day as close to the same time everyday.(this will help you narrow down whats running your bill up.
if you read it today and it reads 100 and read it tommorrow and it reads 500 and the next day it reads 1500 go back think about what you did different to use 1000 more kw than the day before and youll figure out whats running it up.)
5-Make sure your meter is line with what they have charged you for.There is a lot lzy meter readers you will just estmate what you used to keep from getting out of the truck.

Never seen the guy (or girl, for the politically correct) get out and check. I am home at different times of the day, usually once a day. I guess i'll be checkin' it myselfnow. Thanks for the info.

Mine runs about 150 - 200 a month.. Get on the levelized biling.. It cuts out the highs and lows..

If I remember right, I think they are regulated by the public service commission. their rates are approved by the PSC...

I had to get a coupon book to pay my water bill. I picked the wrong year to re-sod the yard.

duckdigler, I work for a city electric department and some of our meters are remote meters. The meter readers can get the readings from their trucks.
