'Saw 10 BW teal this morning (8/27) in NE MS. Oughta be just right in 2 weeks...'hope we get a little cool snap to push'em on down here, then. [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

Saw hundreds in So.La. Sunday morning eating there little hearts out. Hope they're still there on the 15th.

THERE HERE!!! I SEEN UM IN SOME MINNOW PONDS AT YAZOO CITY, SAW'EM IN A SLOUGH AT SATARTIA AND SAW SUM MO IN AN OLD RIVER RUN IN SUNFLOWER COUNTY

If they're already that far south then they're strung out across the entire continent. In Wynyard, Saskatchewan. Been up here past 5 weeks banding waterfowl. We just pulled traps and will head home Friday morning. We've banded about 7500 ducks, mostly blue-winged teal. Banded about 5000 of the little buggers but also mallard, pintail wigeon and redhead. Also caught a few blacks and cans. The number of teal caught in a day maxed out about two weeks ago (400+ IN ONE DAY, about 2300 for the week) and then a little cool snap and the numbers fell a little (to about 100/day). The teal were very aggresive and easy to trap because they're packing in the calories readying for migration. Oftentimes they would swim into traps while we were a hundred or so yards away banding ducks! Many of the teal fly non stop so they need lots of energy. The adult drakes are HUGE this time of year, as plump and fat as cornish hens! The mallard drakes are just starting to get a little green in their heads and the tail curls are starting to grow in. Their feet are already bright orange and their wings are bright and brand new.

THE LITTLE SKILLETS WERE JUST SOUTH OF CLEVELAND ON SATURDAY 35 OF UM MY HOPE IS THAT THEY WILL STICK AROUND LONG ENOUGH FOR FILETING AND WRAPPING WITH BACON AND JALOPENO. GET YOUR GROOVE ON

We had a flock of bluewings that were down here all of last duck season, so I guess not all of them head sough right away if the weather is really mild. They all still probably head back up north to breed, so they don't have to fight for space with the gators, nutria and snakes.

I'm truly envious [img]images/smiles/icon_razz.gif[/img]....always wanted to go up there and work birds like that. What was your banding location and how did you get hooked-up with that program?
