Allergic rxn

Postby bulldog ducker » Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:11 pm

Took my new pup (Charlie) to the vet the other day to get his normal 8 wks shots and a fecal exam. Got him home and he threw up a bit but I thought it was because of the water he drank and ran around. He fell asleep and woke up wining and scratching at his face. Gave him a look at that point and saw that his face and neck was swollen to about 3 time the size. Took him back to the vet and the vet gave him an antihistamine shot and a steroid shot. The vet was great and even stayed open late so I could take him back in. Anyway my question was HAS ANYONE HAD THAT HAPPEN TO THEIR PUP?

Had it happen to mine 2 weeks ago. Head swollen up and scraching so much broke the skin on his front sholders and his muzzle. Two rounds of antibiotics and a steroid shot and he's doing better now but he was miserable for a week. The vet said he has treated a couple of these recently.......didn't exactly know what the cause was???

I have had a few like that, but they had all been stung by something. I always have Benadryl around. I will give it first and see if it helps. If they are having trouble breathing or swallowing, or if swelling continues then I call the vet.
