Sandbags

Postby Dutch Dog » Mon Sep 24, 2007 3:47 pm

I'm needing to make some sandbags for bench shooting. What in the world would be good to make em out of??? I'm looking for something durable, with a tight enough weave to not allow the sand to escape. I really don't want to leave a trail of sand everywhere I take the sandbags. I've seen old shot-bags used, but where do you find them? I don't need to buy 30# of shot to get the .50 bag it comes in. Any ideas????

I've seen them made out of old blue jeans with no holes of course. Cut the legs off how ever long you want the bags and then tie up each end.

if there is a plant nursery or somewhere that sells dirt close to where you are, they usually sell sand and bag their own sand. you can offer to pay for the bags, and they will usually give you them for free. hope that helps.

I made some yesterday out of an old pair of carharts. I manage a concrete plant so the sand wasn't a problem to get but, it works perfect. I weighted down the lead sled with it.
