There just needs to be a free fried chicken day all over the worst parts of Memphis. The only catch is that the chicken would have cyanide in it. That would keep old Willie out of office and put Memphis on the up and up.
Too far?

Memphis is set up on a most votes wins election, not 50%. Willie won with 43% of the vote. They got some F'd up ways of doing business up here, thats for sure.

Not sure what you are getting at, but with 3 "major" candidates running the other 57% of the votes would have been split (for the most part) between those two candidates and ol WW would have the majority vote...which, like it or not makes him the most popular candidate among those who voted.

Gotta love them Memphians. I'm not complaining though...WW has been the single best influence in the suburbian growth surrounding Memphis. Hopefully this will create a new "surge" and the real estate market will pick back up here locally.

It really is a shame that the people of Memphis (the majority that is) have voted him back into office.
Sad part is if either of the other two candidates (especially Chumney) had bowed out, the other could have won.........
Glad I just work here and don't have to deal with this stuff at home!

he did not get the majority vote. the majority voted against him. they should have a run off for the two candidates with the most votes. if the 57 percent continued to vote against WW he would be out.......

Of the 3 candidates, he got the most votes. I guess is how I should have stated it. Yes, I agree that 57% didn't vote for him, but voting isn't about who doesn't get the most votes, it's who DOES get the most votes. The same could be said about any 2 of the 3 candidates. Lets say (and I don't know the exact figures here) but Chumney got 30% and that other fella got 27% and WW got 47% Well, 77 % of the folks voted against the other fella Chumney's 30% plus WW's 47% = 77%. So should Chumney and WW have a run-off.

They were talking about it on Supertalk MS here in Jackson this morning.. Hey at least Melton is trying to do something..
They reported the other night that the Self Defense shootings around Jackson are becoming very regular.. Hopefully the thugs will get the message..

I am going to disagree again dutch. let me rephrase my answer. the way a bunch of municipalities work is....the winning candidate must acquire more than 50 percent of the vote. this means the two candidates with the most votes should have an election (provided no one received more than half the votes in the first election) to elect the winning candidate.

A runoff is what i was getting at. Chumney would be a underdog, but it would be worth a shot
