Hey guys, my dog has got coldwater tail and i just noticed it tonight.... From what I understand its from them working really hard or over-doing it? my question is I'm running a finished test this weekend and wondering if its ok to run her the rest of the week or is that a bad thing? and also is there anything I can give her? Thanks for any help!

Rest is best, but probably wouldn't hurt to run her. Give her Rimadyl or Deramaxx (doggie anti-inflammatory got at the vet) for the pain. Cold tail does cause dogs alot of pain.
The condition is common, but they aren't sure what causes it. I knew a dog that was a pet, but spent alot of time in a crate in a truck and got cold tail. So who knows....

she will most likely be over it by saturday. But I would rest her for about three days (no work) to make sure her tail picks back up. had it happen to my blf... three days of recovery was about all it took and she was ready to go again.

its an over extertion of the muscles at the tail. Just like a pulled muscle. Once a dog has it, its much more likely to have it again. cold water, or being confined after work (like putting a wet dog after working in a kennel) do seem to bring it on, but it can happen in hot weather too without any rhyme or reason. travis

agree. stake dogs and let them relax after running. if you've got to go, get em home and out of the box asap.
