Single Reed vs. Double Reed

I have blown a single reed duck call all my life. When I started calling in the early 80's double reeds were not around. I blow a Southern Game Call Nasty Boy and it is my call of choice. I own several in various woods and acrylics. What is the best true sounding double reed on the market? Is it the Big River Game Calls "Duck Buster", this call sounds good out of the package. Any thoughts.

The best double reed on the market is Zink's XR-2. The call has won several of the live duck contests in Maryland, which is taking place this weekend. The closest thing to the XR-2 is Echo's Meathanger XLT double reed. I look for it to win in Maryland this weekend with Cant Callem making the trip.

i second the zink
but if i had to blow a double reed it would be a timber boss call. the sound very close to a single and look just as good.

Southern Game calls Poison from about 5 years ago is the best sounding call I have. Their new ones don't sound nearly as good.
Primos wenches are very good too.

I hate to pick at you because you're a msu guy and all, but the word "good" and Primos Wench should never be used in the same sentence.
John Stephens himself couldn't take a wench, and make it sound like a duck.

True dat, but im sure if John couldnt you surely could, being gods gift to duck calling and all.

DR-85....but hey im a poo white boy so i can afford the good stuff...just have to twist and tune the cheap ones...

I have an old Haydel made out of bamboo that sounds as good as anything on the market. DR 85 is hard to beat in a double reed. All my single reeds are Southern Game Calls.

is the haydel red leg a double reed?? One of my buddies uses one and it sounds pretty good also!

All haydel calls are double reeds except for the French Mallard.

Yentzens been around awhile...Lotta ducks kilt with them in older times. They gotta double and a triple reed. Real easy and can go loud too...
