Hey guys,
My Dad,sons, and I are coming over that way to hunt the second weekend in January and I was just wondering if the area around Vicksburg is really all that good or what we can expect. If any of you guys have any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the board! Unfortunately you can forget getting much help about hunting public land over here. It's already pretty crowded and we try to keep the good reports of public land off the Internet so our favorite places don't get covered up with people who scout on the Internet. Hope you have thick skin! I feel an obligatory statement coming soon.

No we are going with a guide service over there. I was just curious about the hunting and if it was good. You know stuff like that. I like this board. Most of the folks here seem to be real nice. However, I am interested in joining up in a duck and deer club over in MS. Any good ones that you guys know of that may have openings and how much they are chrging? Info on this would be appreciated.

I hope your guide is having a better year than most of us. Overall it seems like a bad year. Some folks have birds, most don't.

I have not hunted over there in 10 years, but it used to be pretty good if the birds were right. 'course, any place is pretty good if the birds were right.

I was over there this weekend and did not see any birds. I saw a ton of geese though. The birds are just not down here yet, but it may change in January. Good luck and welcome to the board.

If it is the guide at Eagle Lake don't waist your money. Don't pay a guide to hunt a public lake that does not hold ducks. Use a good guide service.

I haven't hunted there yet, and hopefully wont, but some friends of mine have for the past 2 weekends. They said the huning sucks. They did kill 4 ducks this past Sunday, but it took 4 of them until noon to do it. If your using a guide to hunt public land, ask him if he can take you to an oxbow further north{ Whittington, Ferguson, Desoto Lake}. Your odds should be better there. Good Luck!

let me let you in on something....if you are using those guides at Eagle, DONT DO IT!!!.....they do have a nice blind, however, but the area just doesnt have any ducks....
Now, I will let you in on a little secret, the guys you are talking about, have that blind on eagle, AND a lease in Rolling Fork....they told me 3 weeks ago, that, they take the serious duck hunters to the lease, and the amateurs just looking for the experience to the lake.....
make them take you to their RF lease....

The guide that we are using is named Tim Cartwright. Let me know what you guys think about him. He is also a taxidermist there at eagle lake area. If he sucks I don't want to go. If you guys say it ain't worth it we are not going to go. Please let me know ASAP.

I've lived there all my life and never heard of him.
