Duck band info just in: 14 year old green head from Alberta?

I haven't harvested a duck band in 2 years and then within a week I get 2 - go figure. The second one was on 12-06-2002. One of the digits got crushed by a #2 steel shot, but I'm fairly sure I deciphered what was left correctly. I called the number in and got the info today. That greenhead was banded in 1990 near Islay, Alberta and was born before 1989!
I'm wondering if I got the number wrong? Is it likely this duck was this old and far from home? All of the bands I've taken in previous years were from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or N Dakota.
FYI: The other one I took on 12-01, and was banded in Wisconsin and born this spring.

Shot one that was banded in Edam Sask.in 1990. Now those are two old ducks. Shot mine because he was old and slow.

Hpoe the hunting is good and safe.

My dad and are were hunting together Sat. morning, and each killed one. One of them was one of those AVIS bands from Alberta I think, and the other was from the US fish and wildlife service. That was awesome though. I have never seen two in one hunt get killed.

My very 1st duck I killed with my benelli was a banded greenhead. a little later that year I took a buddy of mine on his 1st duck hunt and he killed a banded greenhead. even later that same year another buddy of mine (who probably shot my aforementioned buddy's duck for him) killed a banded greenhead that I totally failed to see the band on its foot. When we got the duck in the boat he asked me "is it banded" I kinda casually looked at the duck's legs and didn't see the band and said "no". About 5 minutes later he got to examining the duck and it did in fact have a band on it. My 1st duck hunt (not counting my grandfather taking me when I was 10 or so) the guy that got me back into duck hunting killed a banded hen, and his dad killed a banded hen later that same year with us not 100 yards from where the other one was killed.

OK, thanks. That makes me feel better about the possibility that I got the numbers right. Just how old can a mallard live to be?
