Just wanted to send a message. We had a dog along with another fellow hunters dog to loose out on a race this week around some posted land. We always run on a WMA. After they lost out on whatever they were running we lost the beep on the tracking collars. We found the dogs without collars. Now we all know that the dogs cant just pull off their collars and kill them from sending signals. After all they were caught around the posted land. Somebody owes us some collars or money if we find out what happened. I am just wondering if there is anybody else out there that has had this to happen and is there anything that we can do other than getting rid of some extra nails that we have lying around. This has just pissed us all off! And we will take care of it ourselves if we have to!

I don't really know what you can do to retaliate....be glad they don't have a bullet hole in 'em.

there's a real easy fix to this....... don't run near posted land..... i'm sure the people who own the land were about as happy about your dogs running across it as you are about them not having collars..... just my two cents

Why didn't you just get an airhorn and a gallon jug full of rocks and try to run all the deer away from the WMA...I mean thats all you are really doing.

The art of dog hunting is fading and we are getting away from it as our dogs are getting old and dying out but there is some excitement to here our dogs run. 99% of my hunting is still hunting and I myself do not own dogs but my uncles and papa always have. I kinda figured I would stir up more of a I like or dont like topic as far as dog hunting goes but I was just wondering if anyone else has had it happen and what they did even though I do know that there is not much we can do.

Not much you can do. Buddy of mine lost his lab, best dog i've ever seen hunt. Looked for quite a spell and located the collar at someone's house oneday. Ain't sure what happened with the dog, but people are sorry. I have caught many and returned them.

i would have shot them and mailed you the damn collars.

woundedduck , be prepared to pay a ton of money and maybe do some jail time for shooting someones hunting dog even if it is on your land. I read an article the other day where a hunter, in South GA, shot another man's catch dog(hog dog) and was order to pay $10,000 and do a couple weeks in jail.

Dog hunting is a great thing if it's done right, but most the time it is not. Not saying what you did was wrong. It sucks they hi-jacked your collars but it could be worst.

had that happen to one of my buddies walkers one night when we were coon hunting..... we turned our two females lose and we found her the next afternoon when no collar..... nothin you can do.... just be thankful you still have a dog... regardless of a law they will still shoot them..... and think about handling the situation yourself before you do anything, cause next time you might just find the collar and not the dog.....

Don't see much ART in deer hunting with dogs... dropping the tailgate and putting the petal to the floor to cut em off... Like others have said you're lucky you got your dogs back, I'd leave it at that

The "Art" in deer hunting with dogs is not killing the deer, it is running the dogs for the ones of you that are obviously ignorant on the subject. Just like duck hunters like to see their high dollar labs "work", dog hunters love to see and hear their dogs run. And as far as killing one's dogs and mailing him his collars, it would be such a foolish act to include a return address. I dont dog hunt, but I have in the past and I am here to tell you it is very exciting. Matter of fact, i was in a deer stand in carroll county two days ago and a pack of beagles ran four deer by me. I dont know whose dogs they were but I enjoyed the race while it lasted and may not have seen any deer without them.

Exactly....Two lost collars or two dead dogs? You choose....

here in mississippi it is legal to shoot ANYTHING if it is messing up your land, or the animals on it......if i had a dog runnin a deer on my place i would let the deer go and shoot the dog for sure or shoot at it....... now before everyone gets their panties in a wad if it had a collar on it i would try to catch it but if any dog ever snapped at me while i was trying to do so it will have a piece of 30-06 bullet through its head and i would go toss the collar on the side of the road somewhere

dog hunting is the stupidest thing that was ever made i hate it with a passion and it takes the passion of deer hunting out. dog hunting is a waste of time and money in my opinion cause 90% of the deer they do run wont ever get killed cause most people cant shoot a deer on the run now some people can........im a still hunter all the way and cant stand hearing dogs bark while im on the stand

A lab that duck hunts and a deer dog shouldn't even be in the same category... most would agree with the fact you can control a bird dog and actually work them unlike deer dogs once they are turned loose who knows where they end up.. That's why I don't see much ART in it....

Let me ask a question......first of all, stealing personal property is just not right.....but....how would everyone feel if me and my lab were duck hunting on public land and we just happened to get off course and start shooting ducks on your private lease? I'm not against running dogs, but if you can't keep them from going on posted or private property (regardless of the situation) without the owners permission, then you shouldn't do it in my opinion. That is one of the most unethical things anyone can do in my opinion.
