How many bands have ya'll shot? I was asking because I have never killed one. Been hunting ducks for about nine years now and have only been on one hunt when we killed one. What do you think the average is on ducks killed to band ratio?

Alex.... I've killed 4....but I've only kept 1 (from a banded Specklebelly goose)....the other 3 were given away....
the more mallards you kill the better your odds are because they band more mallards than anything else.... but, killing a band is more about luck than anything else....

I've killed one banded greenhead. I've heard that the odds are 1 in 200, but I dont know if that is true. Interestingly, the week I killed my band, 2 other bands were killed within 2 days. They seem to run in groups, and of course, some areas have a much higher percentage of delivering a banded duck.

Folks used to say the ratio was something like you needed to shoot 100 ducks to have a band. My experiance is that it is more like you need to hunt your butt every year for 3 or 4 years per band, and the duck "numbers" in the bag are a red herring. In the last 3 years, out of about 1300 ducks in MS and LA, we have had 3 bands, and 2 of those were wood ducks, only 1 mallard.

17 for me and ten more in my party since 1995. My records show for my party every 100 mallards = 1band. Also in that time three woody bands and a weigon. We have one old dude in our camp who has hunted down there since 1976 has never killed or seen a band killed. He needs to get some pigger nussy to change his luck.

9 for me. One was on a drake Can! Took him to a friend who had the connection with a taxidermist along with a banded drake Mallard and a huge Sprig. We went deer hunting for a few days and when we came back his wife had found the ducks and thought he was getting more mounted and she threw them all away!

Killed 2; greenhead(10yrs old!) Canda, wood duck(2yrs old) Tennessee. Killed them in my all time favorite public hole where you have to walk in about 500 yards and watch out for the bottomless beaver runs that keep others away
