This weekend a member of the hunting camps dog bit another member, unprovoked. I wasn’t there when it happened but the way I hear it, is that a member walked by the dog and the dog bit him on the leg and it was pretty bad. Anyway, this dog has been growling at people for years but has never done anything but it finally bit somebody and I am wondering what would you all do to the dog beings he can’t be trusted, and could bit again?

shoot the dog, he would have been dead shortly after the biting. Considering the severity of the bite.

prolly talk to the person about the attendence of the dog in the future...... its not your right just to shoot the dog.....

Fella you shoot the wrong mans dog, you better be ready to dodge a bullet. Some folks might not like that. That dog definately aint comin back to camp though. Prolly should a been kicked out a long time ago.

Shooting the dog is out of the question. Banning the dog from the club is the simple solution.

If dog was unprovoked should be put down, either with a bullet or a shot, whichever the owner chooses. If he will bite once he will bite again, next time it may be a kid. I have been bitten once and the owner shot the dog before I had the chance to say a word. Same with me, had a dog try to bite once and he was quicky put down. Will not tolerate a bad temered dog too many good natured ones out there.

second that.....I wouldnt shoot another mans dog even if it bit me(assuming its not attacking me), I would be inclined to send a man to the hospital for shooting my dog, but I can honestly say my wife would go out of her way to kill the man who shot our dog

Have a sit down, explain to him that his dog is no longer welcomed in the camp. You might not have to worry about him coming back.

If it was my dog I would have addressed the problem long before a bite occured so I wouldn't have to put the dog down or even deal with the situation at hand.

my .02 cents, being the victim of a dog attack when younger, I think the dog should be put down. An unprovoked attack is bound to happen again with this dog, the warning signs were already there but undoubtly ignored. The next attack will be worse and could just as easily be a child. I think it is the owners responsibility to put the dog down. I will not/can not tolerate a dog that will bite/attack a person.

No tolerence for a mean dog. I have witnessed my fair share in dealing with coondogs. Most people that say "no way do you shoot the dog" should take another look. I understand labs (and not sure this one is, just assuming) are alot less likely to be mean spirited, but the growling was enough to be alarmed. Owner should have stomped dog's *ss in the ground the first time. Amazing what a wake up call can do for one.

Dog would not be welcome back to the camp period. Guess the victim and the owner can sort out the dogs future.
