sunk

Postby REB21 » Sun Jan 05, 2003 1:08 am

Hey fellas,

Well this morning i sunk a boat. Surprising? Well, I took a buddy hunting in the backwaters this morning. We figured that we would do really well and the tables turned horribly. Got to the hole. There was way too much water and we set up anyway. To my surprise we had a few groups work and they flared(my guess is the boat). We set up in about five and a half feet of water to learn that we were taking on water in the boat.. tried to get back to the truck and low and behold we took on water up front.... a terrible morn.. glad i can post this morn. Were any of you guys hunting around Ole Sardis this morn. If so, that was me and my 275 lb friend swimming back to shore.

Glad you made it back safely and no one was injured.

Why was your boat taking on water to begin with?

Please share more information if possible. It may help someone else avoid a similar accident or mishap.

REB21.....Glad you are OK and able to talk about your experience.

Some folks would not want to discuss this happening to them as it may hurt their pride, but they don't realize that others can learn from it and most likely save someones life down the road. Thanks for sharing.

What were you wearing....Life jacket with waders or without waders? Just curious.

Were you hunting the big lake or back east of Hwy7? I am quite familiar with Sardis as I have a place close to Holiday Lodge.
Don't be stupid, you idiot.

had a similar experience happen to me at desoto lake one time. 14' with a little 10 horse. had about 4" of freeboard and put as much wait as i could in the back of boat. i was able to get me some forward momentum and pull the plug as you run on down the lake it drafts the water out of the boat. as it drafts you pick up speed and causes it to draft faster. by the time i got to the ramp almost no water. just thought i would share this info, a trick my old man taught me.

hey rebelduck,

I hope that it wasnt you guys in the creek. Whoever it was, was blowing a crowcall and had one of those feedin' mallard calls made by primos(you can tell the difference) Anyhow the reason we were leaving, only to discover the hole in the boat, was because of the horrible calling not 150 yds away. These guys got to the hole about twenty minutes after we did and took the other rd. You??? If so, keep practicing on that calling, it'll come around. There was another guy about 250 yds away set up on the bank hugging a tree and had his mojo spinning.
What is your name rebel

I noticed it was the time of the first post was early am. We where out there the next day. We road in on old Sardis around 6 30 and saw a black explorer and some guys setting up. But maybe where you were hunting you might need a crow call. Plenty of them flying this afternoon. Not many ducks were seen around 15 total. But did I hit the truck right or did you come in from a different road.
