Me and a buddy are hunting some catfish ponds in the delta. Lots of Canadas hanging out and trading across the levees. I am going to buy some Goose decoys to try to get some shots at these. Would rags be pointless since these geese are trading around so low. I would think the rags would work for high geese, but not ones this low. Also would the photograph silhouettes work ????....or could you use a combination of both ????

Just try to find out what work best for these low flying Geese and what would allow me to purchase the most on a budget....

Just watch the flight pattern and put you about 6 floaters 25 yards off of one corner and you get about 25 yards off the other corner.

I'd go with the floaters too, just buy some of the newer ones with the removeable keels so that you could use em' in the field also. Good luck!

I hunt resident canada geese alot here in North Central Kentucky. The resident birds tend to hang in smaller family groups. Accordingly I don't use more than 3 dozen dekes and I arrange them in loose groups of 3 to 8 dekes. I use outlaw sillhoutes mixed with shells or floaters. My success rate went way up when I began using the Outlaws. However, the most valuable tool I have is a flag, a 20 inch square of black cloth stapled to a tomato stake. Canada geese will really respond to flagging.
Another consideration is to pick up your dekes when done. Local birds will learn quickly.

Those big geese look alot closer and lower than they really are. I have not had much success pass shooting. They really need to be in close for a clean kill. They are much harder to kill than snow geese. I shoot 3 inch BB's and T's. Hope this helps. Good luck and punch 'em in the head

I agree with what Newtduck said regarding mixing shells and sillhoutes, the sillhoutes will give the appearance of movement as the geese circle the decoys but can not be seen if they fly directly over the decoys. When I have been hunting Canada's in Southern IL we mixed the decoys. I would also use BBBs or Ts when hunting them suckers. Good Luck!!!
