Muscadine Farms
Muscadine Farms
Where is this Muscadine Farms I have been hearing soo much about and where can I find information on it? Is it worth checking into for next season? Do you need a dog? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
Outside of Hollendale. State runs it not sure where you can get info. Bascilly it's about 28 catfish ponds drawn down a planted in various cover. It is hunted in 4 block sets by up to 3 people one of which is drawn the other 2 are guests. You do not need a dog but it helps with cripples and some of the ponds have a soft bottom. I hunted there this morning. Saw and heard a large number of ducks roosting when we came in. Ducks flew until about 8:30 and split. Tons of geese. Nothing decoyed or really came in gun range. There is brush on the banks but you still need to hide well. It sort of reminded me of hunting a field except no pits or skids. You have to walk everything in. I walked about 500yds pulling to full bags of decoys, a gun, stool, and assorted crap only to shoot a smiley. I am getting too old for that stuff I about died. Other group with us shot a drake mallard and a widgeon. Nice place for a state run deal but nothing to brag about. The Clarion Liar I mean Ledger really played it up but it was like every where else I have been this year too few birds. There is a 25 shotshell restriction but I only shot 3 times so it didn't matter. It is in a historically good location. What I did like about it though was they are controlled hunts meaning you have a spot and it is only hunted 3 x's a week. I think Scott Baker is running it so you might send him and email
