doctors and lawyers ruin all duck hunting

Postby Skeeter » Wed Jan 08, 2003 3:36 pm

I may affend a few but I dont care anymore.....story: I have been telling a client of mine all summer and fall how he needed to give up the deer hunting and let me take him duck hunting.....well, beginning of the season, he buys his duck stamps, borrows some waders and, well, after a few conflicting weekends, i finally got him, however we never got set up due to a near horrible boating accident with some stumps, so we turn around and go home and be thankful...he calls me 3 days later, and says his wife and brother in law have some land in yazoo city that he didnt realize held about a 16 acre slew that his brother in law said was full of ducks and no one hunts it..... :D :D :D .......wow! we got it now!.....talks to his wife, she says she had been letting this doctor duck hunt it all year (she is nurse, and brother in law had no idea), well, long story short , doctor gets wind that we want to duck hunt out there, (her husband included) and has already offered the brother in law and wife a major lump some for exclusive duck hunting rights for the rest of this season and next......and now its practically a done deal......i guess im taking him to the refuge this sat....

lesson from story: doctors and lawyers have ruined duck hunting for all those who cant afford a 16 acre 2000 dollar a year lease....so now back to fighting for spots on the refuge with a bunch of redneck skybusters....

Cry long enough and maby you'll have a river to hunt. Sounds to me like the problem is the wife. It would not matter how much money the doctor had if she said that he could hunt with her husband or not at all. Don't blame the people that went to school, acquired a but load of debt, and would like to reward themselves with a place they can afford to hunt.

Skeeter i wouldnt worry to long about it, let him spend his money and sit out there and shoot at woodducks. I have come to the conculsion that there are no more mallards in the state of mississippi. I would let him spend his money and he will get frustrated with the "no ducks problem" and he will move on just like they all do. We have 3 guys from jackson that are trying to get out of a 3 year lease, and we wont let them. They are frustrated with the way the season has been going. So I say let them spend all there money and learn the hard way.

Its not the ones who want a reward I blame, its the greedy ones. Dont think they are the only ones in debt up to their asses in student loans either. The ones I blame are ones like, say for instance, get millions of dollars from tobacco lawsuite. Buys about 3000 acres on the big black of the finest hunting propery you could ever want. Then buys a 80,000 acre mini ranch just to bird hunt on in Texas. Then buys another 2000 or 2200 acre block near Jackson. And says he wants to buy up every block of land that comes up for sale within miles of his land.

Sad part about it is when you know he has got the money to do it.

Now you tell me how someone can hunt that much land.

Now I aint blaming noone msdrake, but you cant deny greed has taken place here in MS. If you need some other illustrations, I would be glad to share them with you b/c it just makes me sick. Also a reason I quite working for someone. Got tired of taking hunting land away from the common folks to lease it for $20 +.

You want to talk about someone crying, it aint me cause I will always hunt. I got it in my blood. When all the land is bought up I assure you I will still be hunting someones property. They just might not know it.

peewee you gettin awful specific sounds like you got some body in mind

i dont find anything sad about the fact that there are people who have the kind of money to buy tracts of land like you mentioned the only sad thing is that im not one of them

thats the great thing about living in the country we do theres a chance, supposedly an equal opportunity for all of us to one day have that kind of fortune

i think ill sue the ammo manufacturers for my "mental anguish" over steel shot what do you guys think?

I think we are talking about two differrent types of people. I'm glad for the few bad years of hunting we have had. It is pushing prices down slightly. The problem is partly the doctors and lawyers and anyone else that has the perception of having money that does not research what they are getting into. The other problem is people trying to take advantage of these people for their own greedy reasons. I've been looking for some land but $1400 per acre for land that has no investment potential but possibly duck hunting aint gonna get for me. My point is look at what you're buying/selling and be reasonable with yourself.

NO THE PROBLEM IS THAT THESE "TYPES OF PEOPLE" HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET THIS JAM UP SPOT, BUT IT'S LIKE THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE DOING IS BECAUSE ITS THE "COOL" THING TO HAVE. THEY PROABLY HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN A DUCK HOLE UNTIL EVERYBODY STARTED DOING IT.

Skeeter, ain't it funny how the guy never offered to pay until he heard you guys wanted it.

Now if you really want to screw the doc do this: Go to the brother in law and his wife and just casually mention how you saw a duckhole just like theirs bring $15000 back in the fall. The wheels of greed will start turnin and before you know it they've told the doc to stick it (unless he comes up with 15 grand). They'll start shoppin it around next year and while they're gettin no takers at 15 large you and you're buddy are bustin greenies every morn.. Diabolical ain't it........It's really just psychology, I shouldn't be givin all my tricks away. It's taken me yrs and yrs to come up with this stuff. 8)

I have a few lawyers and doctors in the family (sad to say I am not one of em'). The are all pretty good folks. Hell GC is a lawyer and he seems to be a pretty darn good fella to me. Not a one of em' duck hunts. However, I am sure that if they wanted or needed to they could pay a bit more for that house on the hill than the average fella. What we (use average joes) need to do is find a way to make more money or leverage our way into these leases. Give it a few more crappy years and the high rollers along with the johnny come latelies will either take up another hoppy or be shooting pen raised birds if they don't truly love the sport. You just have to beat em' to it and get that little ole lady that owns the land now in your watch pocket. Good luck!
