FIRST TIME TO WRITE IN FORUM. I HAVE HUNTED QUITMAN COUNTY, MS FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS. I HUNTED WITH A FRIEND FROM CLAY COUNTY THIS WEEKEND WHO HAD NEVER DUCK HUNTED IN THE DELTA. WE SAW THOUSANDS OF DUCKS AND GEESE OF EVERY TYPE NORTH OF MARKS AND ALSO IN THE LAMBERT AND CROWDER AREAS. WE ONLY KILLED 2 WOODIES, BUT COUSIN AND SEVERAL FRIENDS KILLED 50+ ON 5-6 JAN. DUCKS NOW SITTING BY THE THOUSANDS IN FLOODED CORN AND BEAN FIELDS ON PRIVATE LAND AROUND DARLING, MS (HWY 3) I HEAR THERE IS FAIRLY GOOD PUBLIC HUNTING AT ASKEW BOTTOM WMA NEAR ASKEW JUST OFF OF HWY 3. FOR EVERY ONE WHO SAYS THERE ARE NO MALLARDS, JUST TAKE A TRIP TO QUITMAN CO AND YOU CAN LOOK AT SOME. b][/b]

I made a round this afternoon, I have 320 acres near Darling where we have been doing pretty well. Been holding 2000 - 4000 birds. This afternoon I did not see 200 birds. Did not go to crowder.

It does not look good for the up coming hunts.

Cooter, I have hunted Askew three times this year. Have not fired a shot. Rode around and talked to other hunters, and the ducks are not there. In the past, you could count on a wood duck... But they are not there this year.

Even took the camera a couple of evenings hoping to catch them landing at sunset.... nada. Saw tons of geese following the Coldwater River, but they had their suitcases with them. And -0- ducks mixed in.
