Whats country music come to?

I'm not a big country music fan, but I listen to it occasionally (certain songs by certain artists). I caught myself watching the CMT awards tonight and was just confused as to why they classify some of those songs and artists in the "Country music category". I'm fairly young but what happened to the old/true Country style (Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Straight, even Garth Brooks) to name a few. Now its Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Big and Rich, Kenny Chesney and on.. Hell, they even had Snoop Dogg and Bobby Brown come out on stage. Where is the heritage of country music headed?

Start listening to some Texas country!

Heritage? It's gone, i ain't a big fan of the new stuff. Songs today have no "heart", there just words. It's a new era, they're there to make $$$.

Everybody I listen to is either dead or pretty dang close except for the boys from Texas or some guys that are still playing the bars.

Its a joke what Nashville calls country music these days.

Nashville has always been known as the place you do NOT want to go if you want to express your own kind of music. It's known as the place where record companies tell you what's popular, what you will do and what you will not do. That's the reason Waylon, Willie, Johnny, and Kris were literally "outlaws" in Nashville because they refused to be told what to do with their music.

With the exception of a few artists like Allan Jackson, some Tim and Kenny and a couple others, country music is a freakin' joke.

However, I would do just about anything to get Taylor Swift alone for a few hours.

Wilm88, for the record, Garth Brooks is not country music! In fact he spurred the whole "new country genre"!

country music = pop music

Just about all music you hear on regular radio is top 100 pop.

Nobody saw them running
From 16th Avenue
They never found the fingerprints
Or the weapon that was used
But someone killed country music
Cut out its heart and soul
They got away with murder
Down on music row

The almight dollar
And the lust for worldwide fame
Slowly killed tradition
And for that, someone shouldhang ("Ahh, you tell 'em Alan")
They all say "Not Guilty!"
But the evidence will show
That murder was committed
Down on music row

For the steel guitars no longer cry
And the fiddles barely play
But drums and rock 'n' roll guitars
Are mixed up in your face
Ol' Hank wouldn't have a chance
On today's radio
Since they committed murder
Down on music row

They thought no one would miss it
Once it was dead and gone
They said no one would buy them ol'
Drinkin' and cheatin' songs ("Oh, but I still buy 'em")
Well there ain't no justice in it
And the hard facts are cold
Murder's been committed
Down on music row

For the steel guitars no longer cry
And you can't hear fiddles play
With drums and rock 'n' roll guitars
Mixed right up in your face
Why the Hag wouldn't have a chance
On today's radio
Since they committed murder
Down on music row

Why they even tell the Possum
To pack up and go back home
There's been an awful murder
Down on music row

I don't think that he would dissagree with ya, He did start the new country genre, but give the man credit, He saved country music from being forgoten, because of his record sales there are alot of younger people that will listen to Willie and Waylon just because they are on a " COUNTRY" label and without him bringing those people in they wouldn't know who the outlaws are.
Now if you realy want to get down to the shuckins; What is COUNTRY MUSIC, how is it defined? Who says that there music is county music, there were county musicans long before willie, waylon and the gang, and even Hank Sr. when he came along he was to be the end of County music, and he was to the older folks of that generation, just like the Dudes that we hear on the raido today are to us. For my money Ill take Pat Green (not the stuff you hear on the raido) or anything that comes out of Austin TX.......IF you realy want to have a great time yall should go to austin while there music fest is going on its pretty cool, kinda like a city wide jam sesion that goes on till about 2am everyday, you'd be supprised who you would see there.

It sure is changing.. But I don't necessarly see that as a bad thing.. Except, it pushes some of the more traditional artist off the airways.. Like Tracy Lawrence, Tracy Bird, Mark Chestnutt... But some are still able to make it like Brad Paisley and George Strait.. I think you have a couple of artist that work both sides.. Like Tim McGraw, Kenny Cheseney, and even Trace Adkins. If you pay attention you will see that they usally release a more modern "Country" song followed by a more tradtional Country song.. Example.. Trace Adkins.. "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" then "Your Gonna Miss this"... I like most of the stuff Rascal Flatts does.. Even thought they are not "Country and Western" the remind me a lot of Diamond Rio... If you want truc C&W you gotta go to Austin Tx..
