My dog tested positive a few months ago and has been through the treatment and is still coming up pos. The vet and I talked about it the other day and I switched last week myself. Hopefully this works better than what I have been using.

I've switch to Multi. Scott Greer has also had results using Multi to treat HW. But the worms must be in a very low stage (1 or 2).

I believe our very own Doc and Nash mentioned Multi several months ago.

Interesting thing is that Multi has a 34 day half life to kill microfilia while the indigestables (heartguard and interceptor) half life to kill is 48 hours. If a worm can survive 48 hours its off and running.

What vet do you use in Oxford? Just curious as mine does not carry it, but I did switch last month.

I have always used ivermectin liquid or the ivermectin paste and have always )as recent as yesterday) tested negative. I know of serveral friends and a pro that has used Heartguard or other similar products with not so good results. I was also recently told by a local vet that if it were his dogs he would not do the treatment just up the dose for at least 6 months.

rboudet, I just got through treating a dog that had been on the liquid twice a month...nothing is 100% unfourtunately.

Hind sight is 20/20 I wish I would done this instead going through with the treatment. I don’t have any complaints with my vet but the change of life for my dog has made her totally different. I have been on heartguard form the beginning and they paid for everything.. My vet told me just Monday of this week before I saw this post that Advantage Multi was not a good preventive for heartworms in the MS Delta but I use it in the middle of each month along with Heartguard.

That thread on hartworm meds is part of what the problem is. People, people who ought to know whats going on here, like vet tech, vet students, and VETS, outside this area with all the breakthrus, still think a dog with hartworms wasnt taken care of, and you treat them and its over. Its simply not true. Da Juice was treated twice and has never tested negative in 2 years since... hes been on multi for 5 months, I cant wait to retest and see a negative. His sister was treated 2 or 3 times, and never checked negative, a switch from hartguard to interceptor and she was negative next check. There are stuff going on the EDUCTATED on the problem here don't understand... no way someone not effected by it with textbook answers can even grasp it. Belive dat. travis

Amen , sad that we have to take on the role of vet in order to try and save our own dogs .

Guys been reading the post. Just to let you know Im in vetschool and studying parasitology under one of the heartworm experts. He has confirmed what yall are saying. Over the past several years there has been a resistance to Ivermectin/ivermectin products along the Mississippi Delta area.

This is the only spot in the WORLD of documented resistance...the advantage multi has a variation of ivermectin's compound (moxidectin)..

Those of you who are having problems talk with your vets about upping your dog's dose via giving straight ivermectin. ..just a thought

I am well aware nothing is 100%. One question I do have was it straight Ivermectin or were you mixing it?
