Gas

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine in the petroleum business and he said gas was going to be 5.21. Just because the refineries are shut down for 4 days. Something is broken in the system and I would like to see the government regulate the gasoline industry. By regulate I mean put some money in to build new modern refineries INLAND and get them away from the coast.

Not all the refineries are shut down.. My cousin said his in CC is open.. And have not cut back on production. There are 5 or 6 refineries there all of them open.. He said that if gas shoots up to 5.00 they are gouging. There is no reason to raise the price.

The price per barrell of oil has not increase. The retails stores may run out of gas so they're charging what the market will bear based on supply and demand. I don't like it. You would think that with the refineries shutting down that their demand on foreign oil would temporarily decline.

It's more efficent to have the refineries next to the coast. Everything comes in by barge or pipeline from off-shore. Move the refineries farther inland and now you have to start running some SERIOUS (say 36" OD and larger to handle the capacity of just crude) pipelines. Yes, there's some 36" OD pipeline in the ground right now, but those have crude on the bottom and natural gas on top. Then you also have a whole different climate up there, snow storms, ice storms, etc. There's way more snow storms and ice storms than there are hurricanes, much less hurricanes that hit the mainland.
