Yeah..Yeah...For those who didn't get to go..the story that Mississippi_duc_htr is talking about...
myself and 2 running buddies (from when we were stationed in Meridian around 1996 or so)..anyway..One was from West texas..and the "other" was from Selma, Al...We never claimed ole JT from Selma to be very bright..but at any rate...I took "Knuckle" and "Head" to this little mud hole of a duck pond...Set about 40 dekes out or so...
I told them we were to sit in a row...about 15-20 yards from each other....the pond isn't but probably 80 yards acrossed it and 60-70 yards long...basically the standard OVAL pond...anyway we were gonna be set up perfectly...the sun coming up at our backs....cold temp's, light wind blowing...dekes hooked up for a Waterfowl Widowmakin' session!! Man were we ever set...
So as knuckle and head head down the bank of the pond....The first one stops at his "slayin'" spot...Ole JT kept on down the bank... 'bout 5-10 minutes later we started to chat before the sun started to rise...(smoke break)...Well on the other side of the pond I see a siloutte of some man walking on the other side of the pond..towards the decoy spread...So I hollered..hey man...We've got decoys down here already set up...No reply...
I asked the guy from Texas could he see the guy over there too...Yup I see his axe...So we hollered again..Trying to tell the guy we were already set up...So I said to JT ( remember he was about 30 yards from me) can you see the SOB...Oh hell yeah he says...So we gave him about 3 or 4 more warnings...never left....after repeatedly..I mean repeatedly telling the guy he was fittna get a axe-whoopin'...to go on...there wasn't room plus we had already set up on this hole.. The guy just set himself up right in our spread!
Ole JT wasn't much for confrontation...(that's the nice way to say it)..So on the count of 3 my Texas buddy and I sprayed his axe with steel shot...Man I tell ya...Ole JT come up out of the grass...STOP SHOOTIN...STOP SHOOTIN'.... IT'S ME...DAMN IT!!!...STOP SHOOTIN'!!! Ole JT walked not only to his spot but had gotten up and walked alittle farther AFTER he took a smoke break...Well Ole JT NEVER did that again!!
We laugh about that day..when we get together or call each other...boy makes for a fun duck season to have ole JT from Selma, Al!!

Yeah, that was one of the highlights of the get-together........When 'Red' ('Booger') arrived, I asked him if he brought a gun, to which he responded....."I brought 3 16ga's, a 20ga, and my fork," as he produced the fork from his hip pocket.
The man definately came, prepared! Funny guy!
Glad you made it, 'Red'.
