Remeber, you get what you pay for in life.
I bought a brand new 5x8 tilt economy Baker Trailer last December from an out of town ( for me ) equipment sale business last December. Today, I just discovered that there is a defect in the angle iron that was used. You see, at the very end of each side of the trailer, the last two inches or so of the angle iron frame, right in the bend in the angle, a crack has developed in the angle iron. It doesn't appear to be critical or anything right now, but it's troubling to me.
I happened to be in Pearl with the trailer today, and decided to stop by the Baker Trailer main office in Pearl to see if the welder could fix the trailer. I told them that the trailer had not been wrecked or anything, and they told me that I have not loaded my ATV improperly, and they didn't know why it cracked. I suggested that they weld a bead to fill in the cracks, and then brace the area with another small piece of angle iron. I'm not asking for a refund on my purchase, and I'm certainly not talking about a lot of materials needed to fix the problem. They probably could have found scraps lying around that would have been perfect to fix this. They could have easily fixed this problem and sent me out the door a very happy customer, with good things to say about them.
Instead, I was told that because I didn't buy the trailer from them directly, I would have to pay to have the trailer fixed. They told me, that even though I bought this trailer brand new this past December, they wouldn't be able to honor the one year factory warrantee. Well, I can say that I am completely dissatisfied with the Baker Trailer company because of this. In my opinion, they are telling me bluntly that the Baker Trailer company does not standing behind their products.
My problem is that I originally bought this trailer out of necessity while I was out of town. I don't believe that I should have to take it back to the dealer whom I originally bought it from. Frankly, the money needed to get this fixed by some other welder is not the problem. My problem is the whole idea of the Baker Trailer company looking for excuses so they would not have to stand behind their products. I will have nothing good to say about the Baker Trailer company after this. I'm going to take it to my welder friend and give him a "Jackson" to fix this minor crack before it does become a real problem. In hindsight, I can now clearly see that I should have waited and shopped around for the trailer, instead of buying it on the impulse because the price was right.
Signed, Frustrated. You get what you pay for.

Wildfowler: If you did not get my e-mail.
Give Chuck a call at TSI in Pearl and they will fix your trailer, if you have any problems give them Tim Walker's name from the main office in Collins.

Heck Wildfowler,
It's not what you know, It's who you know. By the time the fellows on this board gets through you will have a band new 6x9 trailer.

Thanks Guys.
Honestly, I don't want a brand new trailer or anything like that and I certainly don't want something for nothing. I was just shocked at the response I got. I've got a temper, and it made me mad, I over-reacted and I apologize for making such remarks, when I knew that someone here on this board probably either knows them personally, or does business with them. I should have just asked for help rather than getting mad. I hope there is no hard feelings by anyone here.
Anyway, Webfoot has hooked me up with some names at the company, I'm sure they will honor their products when I talk to the right person. I'm calling Chuck tomorrow to.

Speaking of 27 All-American dogs, does anyone need a good puppy from a good home? Bag of dog food with every puppy!

Wildfowler, let me know what happens with Chuck at the Pearl store. If you don't get any help from him I can assure the man that owns the business will not be happy with Chuck or the person you spoke with when you went out there. I think I remember Chuck, and he is a really nice guy. If that doesn't work let me know, and I will talk to the business owner for you. Would have me mad too.

I spoke to Chuck, and I've made arrangements to bring the trailer to the shop in Pearl tomorrow, to have it repaired and reinforced under warrantee. I appreciate everyone's help with this. Again, I apologize for my conduct.
Thanks everyone.

Wildfowler,
You did exactly the right thing in my opinion. A person shouldnt have to KNOW someone to get fair treatment. You just identified one of the things that make me really upset. ALL YOU DID was give someone your business/money for their product and they were unwilling to repay your confidence by standing behind their product. As a salesperson, I go out of my way to respect those that choose my products and services and provide them with what they dont receive very often these days.....more than they expect.
Guess I got a little carried away there myself. Bottomline= they would have been a hell of a lot better off if you had posted a great report on the unexpected service that you got instead of the frustration of poor service. They lose. INJ

Wildfowler, you did not thing to be sorry for! If you do not complain, how can a business fix their problems. Your post can help Baker be aware of their customer service problems and not only fix them, but improve their business!
I would never hesititate to raise hell if I did not get what I expected from a business! If they can not fix it, they do not deserve to be in business.
