I have the fever and I am going to purchase one. How do you determine what size to get for the size of your room? Room is approx. 13' x 20'. Will probably be about 15' away from the tv. What is a good brand and model and of course where to buy from? Thanks in advance. Vern

It really depends on the size of the room and how close you are going to be to the tv.

I just bought a Phillips 42'' today for my den. Going to get the HD box tomorrow. I got it from SAMS in Jackson. So far I am very happy with it. It was alittle over $800.

According to an industry report the other day, supposedly the prices of TV's are going to be dropping quite substantially in the coming months.

I did quite a bit of research before i bought mine and i got a 40" samsung in September. From what i read, i think samsung and sony have the best lcd tvs on the market right now.
I would think with christmas coming and economy down, that you will see good discounts after Thanksgiving.

For price, the best will be in the ads for Black Friday. Just remember distance/screen size ratio. There is a guide somewhere, but on large screen (32 and up) if you are too close your picture will look grainey. Research and visiting the stores. Check out the Panasonic, it's field of view was great, you can almost stand 90* to the screen and have a great picture, something to consider if your setup in the room is not straight on, good luck

I bought a 46" Samsung LCD back in March. I've been very pleased with mine and IMO, they have the best picture of them all.
I bought mine at Circuit City. Since they have declaired bankruptcy you may be able to get a bargain with them.
As far as size, I had my mind set on a 42", but I wasn't sure about it so I upgraded to 46" I say think about what size you figure you need and go up one size bigger. Always better to err on the large size and you can't go wrong.

Take the screen size and multiple it by 2.5, then divide by 12 for optimal HD viewing distance. You can go by 3, but that's the farthest away to want to be. I've got a 46" samsung and I sit around 9.5-10 ft away.

go to best buy and look around the geek squad/customer care area. They should have a free magazine that is about electronics. It goes through what you need and why. Good tool.

I own a 42" Samsung DLP and sit about 14' away from it. According to my manual, I can sit as close as 5-6' from it. Widescreen TV sittings distance are NOT like the older tube style TVs. Widescreen seating distance is more designed around the "cinema" feel. Sitting in front and seeing mostly screen when your sitting in front of it, kinda like at the cinema. Also 1080i/p and 720p distances will vary. You can sit alot closer to the TV when viewing a 1080 picture than you would if viewing a 720 picture.
Here is a good article that references the difference between regular TV and HD TV:
http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-5108580-2.html and it has seating distances in some charts as well.

I bought a 42" Samsung about a year ago & have been very pleased.....narrowed it down to Samsung & Sony......they had the best pictures to me......Samsung had the higher customer rating of the 2 & was actually cheaper.....google the internet to determine the size set for the room......if you have a lot of natural light coming in the room go with lcd......if no glare plasma would be my choice.....there should be plenty of deals out there.....just my 2 cents

i have an lcd in the bedroom and a plasma in the living room. of the two, i prefer the plasma. The LCD is clear on the HD channels, but on regular none hd broadcasted channels there are little cubes that make up the picture and it takes away from the enjoyment. But don't get one unless you are going to get the service because that would defeat the purpose. But as for games on the plasma there is no comparison!!!!
