Brother-in-law just had a dog test positive for heartworms (vet said caught it early). Dog has been on heartguard for several years. I thought I remembered reading where some people swithched to advantage multi after getting heartworms and had good luck with it taking care of the heartworms. Is this correct?

I'd like to swith my dog but he weighs ~90 lbs and I notice their weight cuts off at 88 lbs.

isn't the hartguard dose from 51 to 100 pounds? Im thinking cutting off at 90 is probably closer than 51 to 100 pounds, but that may be clouded by all the hartguard breakthrus Ive had. my 2 cents. travis

Thanks for the link...I'll tell him about it.

Travis I was referring to the advantage multi cutting off at 88 lbs. I thinks its 55 - 88 lbs.

J. Paul Jackson of Lone Oak Retrievers switched his kennel to Bayer Advantage Multi with great results.

Ive had one test negative after six months of Advantage. This dog had never been on any heart worm meds. 6 year old outside all its lif dog. Had as strong a positive as one can have.

Im pretty sure Chris Akien is using it as well.

My brother-in-law went to the vet today and she told him that the medicine (advantage multi) COULD NOT kill adult heart worms. Of course they do not sell it and I don't think they've ever heard of it. Any thoughts besides get a new vet :)

Josh,

I ran into the same issue with my Vet. Said they do not carry it nor do they intend to carry Multi. HeartGuard and Interceptor must pay these Vet's some good dough to keep them in their pocket as I would think that a Vet would want to carry any product that their clients are willing to purchase.

I spoke to J. Paul and he is going to get the Bayer rep to give me a call.

Josh, try Oxford Animal Clinic with Dr. Lee Payne...my 2 year old yellow tested posoitive in July ( same dog you saw in Flora (that broke ;))at Magnolia hunt test) He was on Heartgaurd...anyway six months now after treatment he is negative and Dr. Payne switched him over to Advantage.....It's a topical plus it not only treats heartworms but fleas too.
