just read a classified thread where someone is looking to buy a beginner guitar..just wondering how many players we have here....
I just picked one up at 42 and am really enjoying it.
strictly chord stuff right now....more interested in rhythm playing at the moment..
learning off internet and friends...might consider lessons later

I'm not really a guitar player....more of a guitar racket maker. Been making racket on it for about 14 years. I just started some lessons two weeks ago in hopes that someone can help me clean up my playing a little and fill in some of the gaps. I mostly use it to unwind at the end of the day. Don't really have any aspirations of entertaining any one.

I'm kind of the same way....I'd like to be able to sit around and listen to the radio and play along...maybe play a little for the kids.....i get a chance to play a little at work, and a little at home...just a way to unwind

but I wish i was a whole lot better at it!

Yeah, I don't want to be a lead guitarist in a band or anything, but I get tired of playing boring rhythms over and over. I need to add just a little flare to my playing to make me feel good about myself once in a while.

I've been playing for 19 years. I picked it up when I was 14 and started playing in bands in high school. I played in a few country bands in college. Now I'm in a little bluegrass band and I still play a few solo gigs every few months. I'm down to seven guitars now. The sad part is unless I'm practicing with the band or playing somewhere, I hardly ever pick up my guitar. I need to back to pickin around the house for fun. If any of you boys are over this way in April I'll be playing solo at the Brew Pub in Montgomery on April 2.

I've played for about 10 years and switched to bass guitar as my primary instrument about a year ago. My six string is a Martin and my bass is a Fender. I'm all acoustic so far.

Some fun things to try...

Instead of the standard EADGBe, tune to DADGAd. This gives you a major chord at every fret if you barre all six strings. Then, you can learn to slide.

Learn the following scale patterns: Major, Pentatonic Minor, Pentatonic Major, and Blues. Then you can play along with almost anything as long as you're in the right key.

Been playin for bout 24 yrs now off and on ...used to play alot and get up with a few bands round Jackson and Vicksburg ....George McConnell got me started back in the day when we used to have house partys every weekend ......Still like to get some guys together to play and sing.... dont do as much as i used to lost lot of interest when i had thyroid cancer and lost my range in the voice......could not and still cant hit the notes i used to but will give the try when ever i get the chance......can follow most anybody in the rythem section but the only bad thing i have now is the diease called dilyricless (thats when ya get old and cant remember the words ) so i will make em up or sing them over couple times......

Used to play quite a bit, was in a few bands. Now I just play when I feel like it, and most often thats not often enough as I don't have my caluses (sp?) built up anymore, so 30 min of playing and I am done now.

Have 3 les pauls and a telecaster. Marshall stack with marshall tube amp, and a smaller supro amp.

I started when I was about 12. Played in several bands over the years playing all types of music. I don't play that much any longer though. I also used to play bass and loved the upright, but silt it about 9 years ago because it took up too much room and was too hard to transport. All I have now is my Taylor and my old mandolin.

Been playing since I was 10 and I am 36 know. Played in several rock bands when I was younger. Play with friends and feel in on gigs every chance I get. I am a bass player first but I can play everything except the fiddle. I am also a collector. As of right know I have 32 basses, 26 guitars, bunch of amps, ukuleles, drums, keyboard/ organs. I got alot of stuff.

I have 3...picked up guitar about 15 years ago. I haven't played them in probably 5 years.
