Just got a call from my bud on our lease in crowder, Seems like some fellows in nashville called the farmer and leased all our timber holes which consisted of about 395 acres for $790,000

! I first of all say either they had to hide some money real quick or they know something I don't

. Anywho I think it is kinda funny b/c I would have jerked the suckas arm off if he offered me that kind of money, But I am still investigating the situation. I will keep you updated. So anyway I need a lease in a bad kinda way now. So like the commercial says "Will somebody help me"

It always seems to happen that way.
Our group on three occations have taken land that was totally unproductive for ducks, built holes, blinds, habitat, and water control devices and have it where we were getting good numbers of birds in. Only to lose it the next season to people with money to spend.
You cannot blame the land owner for wanting to get the most for his land. HOWEVER the land owner never really seems to remember that the land was not that good before the people that first leased it made it that way.
If I was a land owner I would try to get the best of both worlds. People with that kind of money do not want to work the land and make the place better. most just want to hunt. I would try and get the New poeple wanting to hunt to join the boys that are already there.
We have lost two of the clubs we had to people out of Jackson paying 8 fold what we were paying for the place. It sucks cause a working man don't have a chance unless he has family or friends to take care of him.
Public is all you have after that and that sucks when your surrounded by weekend warriors using 18 spinners, 12 dippers, 2 mallard machines.

That's $2,000/acre....
Don't you mean they bought the land instead of just leasing it?
If that's a one yr lease then they are some dumbasses, could go buy some good land for that price.

2,000 an acre will buy farms land here, but it won't touch some of the hunting land that is selling. If anyone is interested I heard Merigold Hunting Club was up for sale. 16mil

There's a good article in this month's issue of Ms Woods & Water magazine on this very topic. The state taxpayer is getting shafted during the the influx of out-of-state high rollers. There's no end in sight.....

These guys have some leases 45 mins to an hour north of you. I think they start around $3000 a blind spot

The best thing to do is get w/ your buddies and BUY your own place. This cuts down on that stuff.

I wish I knew who these guys were. I know of a place that 320 acres that buts up to Panther Swamp thats for sale. It is a great set up. I'd buy it and lease it out to them for half the price.

believe me guys i know what it feels like to have land that you have leased for years bought right out from you. just lost the leases that i have been hunting for the last 23 yrs. trying to talk with the guys who bought it but haven't gotten a replay. 5 farms for 13.5mil.here in VA just seems that all these land developers are buying everything and building those custom built houses. really sucks because they are moving farther out of town every day. and buying up some really good hunting spots. i was hoping i would get the opportunity to take my little girl there hunting someday and teach her all that my dad has shown me:(
