Re: stray dogs
+1, especially if they are doing damage. I'm going through the same thing.

a man has the right to protect his property. They are destroying your land and causing harm to your pets. Sounds like the 12 Ga needs to come on out of the closet. I'd try a warning shot to see if they are gun shy. This might be enough to push them away.

Re: stray dogs
Let's see. You have a pack of stray dogs coming onto your property and causing damage to your property, attacking your dogs (causing you to have additional vet bills), and endangering you and yours. Am I right? If animal control won't or can't, then regardless of what the law 'says', you must. So, shoot them.

I live in the county so there is no animal control. Called the sheriff's department and they said there was nothing they could do! 12 Ga is the only solution I'm left with I suppose!

Re: stray dogs
#4 buck is ideal, if they are getting in close.
growing up i was attacked by a pack of these things. luckily i was squirrel hunting and had lots of shells for my lil winchester .22 pump and was close to a tree stand when they came at me, i killed 7 outta 12, since then i shoot pack dogs on sight.
make sure none are toting collars cuz these might be a pet caught up in the pack( it happens), but as for the rest, i consider them like coyotes that are not afraid of people and they must go. you could awlays try to bait and cage them, but the simplest, and best thing is to just shoot'm and get them outta the population

Look at the recent case in Oxford. Older gentleman was raising fancy chickens and his neighbor's dog came over and killed some of them. Chicken owner was taken to court for shooting a well-trained high bred lab worth several thousand bucks. The Judge gave a great opinion and awarded the chicken owner $7 for each chicken the dog ate, and the plaintiff dog owner got nothing but a bill. I'll link in a site that has the opinion if I can find it.

I'm sorry, but I agree with you on every issue but this one, simply because you cannot know how old those collars are. If they still have the collar and they've been with the pack a while, they could be very dangerous and you may not know it. That is why it is called 'responsible pet ownership'. Of course, that is also why you have to remember this one hard and fast rule before shooting anything - 'know your target'. Good luck.
