I've had some great hunts in Idaho. The Snake River had tons of Goldeneyes and an eye opening population of Mallards plus many other species. I've got friends there.

Ive never been, but there is a group of people from cleveland that go on a "cast and blast" out of boise every year. There are a bunch of rivers in the area i think, they float, fish, and hunt grouse i believe. So there is definitley some outdoor stuff going on.

thought about you when i saw this thread.....something cool about shooting 'eyes' and love the commons more than the barrows actually....
pat's right about mallards as well, and while i can't attest to idaho, i can say w/in a states drive i've seen some of the most ridiculous duck hunting i'll ever experience.
top it iff w/ various upland species and big game (if drawn) of all sorts, and you got yourself a pretty good gig. late july, hit some tech water and wet a fly......................
hard to beat, gator

Excellent upland bird hunting in Idaho..alot of valley quail, few phez, huns, and chukars..also plenty of public land to hunt blue grouse and ruffed grouse...Turkey hunting is good too..however most turkeys are on private land

Boise Idaho is a hunter's mecca. There is EXCELLENT duck hunting up there and not that many hunters compared to our standards. I hunted there during the point years and I think we could kill 15 mallards a day? Not really sure but it was a LARGE number of birds, and we killed them every day we hunted.
On top of that there is some of the finest mule deer hunting in the country almost in city limits and there are very huntable elk populations within an hour and a half of there. I have a freind (He is like a fater to me) that lives there and hunts quadrapeds, not ducks. However if he can help you he will. Let us know what happens up there.

I got a friend out there too and will talk with him. He keeps asking me to go up there and offers me to stay at his place, even bring the whole family. I've seen some pictures and it looks amazing in that part of the country, can honestly say I've never travelled to Idaho though. His house is elevated kind of like a camp would be around here.

VERY good duck hunting and the goose hunting is pretty phenomenal around there. I was out there in Nov last year for work and the geese just flying through and around Boise were just crazy.

from a conversation with my buddy up that way. He lives about 50 miles north of Boise. His son is a real estate agent and a sportsman and his daughter in law is in the mortgage biz. They live in Meridian. PM me for his info. He's currently in SLC for work, but lives in Idaho.
Boise is becoming a big city. Population wise, not many duck hunters in Idaho, but the Snake River and Boise River have some fantastic duck/goose hunting. He will need a good dog. Upland bird hunting with quail, chuckers, grouse and pheasants are some of the best in the nation. Some folks like to float the Boise River and jump shoot. that's my choice as I never had a dog.it was alot of fun. Snake river is very big and has some islands in the middle in places. that's where to duck hunt, put decoys out close to the island and it's a slam dunk. The first time I went duck hunting on the Snake in eastern Idaho, I was the only person hunting. I did a limit of 12 mallards, of course that was a long time ago. The western flyway doesn't have the ducks that the central does, but there are alot less folks hunting. Goose hunting in the farm fields is one of the best in the west. Hardly any farmers lease their fields, you just get permission. there's also a big push for longer seasons to curb the local Canada population that is flooding the local parks in the summer, lots of complaints. Lake Lowell near Nampa is a popular duck hunting spot. If he likes to hunt and fish, can't get much better than the Boise area. best big game situation in the west. it takes 6 months to become a resident, after that, it's all good
we're going home to Idaho for hunting in late October for about a week. deer seasons vary depending on whether you hunt mulies or whitetail and elk usually lasts 2-3 weeks depending on the hunting unit. as a resident, you don't have to put in on a draw hunt and you can hunt in a general hunt. lots of federal lands so no private lease crap to worry about
