Anyone ever spent any time in Montana? Specifically the Missoula area? May have a job opportunity there......I'm sure you have a ton of outdoor opportunities, but dang, it was 6 degrees there the other night. Also, what about the people......heard they were a little "earthy", don't really care for the whole west coast thing.....

I have spent a little time out there but it was years ago. Most of the locals (non imports from CA) are great people. I personally would jump at the chance to live out there.

I spent some time there in that I flew into Great Falls and then got in a car and drove into Canada. The people in Great Falls were some great people, the scenery was awesome the whole trip. On the way home I detoured onto a different path that brought close to Glacier National Park. Somewhere along the way right at dark 30 I came up onto some ponds along the roadway and seen the most birds I've even seen in my entire life. I've seen pictures where the sky was covered with ducks, well this was ducks and geese. Had deer sitting at the roadway farther on during my trip. I was in amazement.

Beautiful country, but COLD. Wind chills in the -20's when we were up there a couple years ago. Lots of wildlife though.

My dad has a buddy that use to go spend a month up there every fall when hunting season started. He said the only thing that kept him from moving was the family farm being passed down to him. He has aome nice deer,elk, bear,and I think a couple of Mulies he killed on public land up there. This was back in the 80's though, I am sure it has not change much up there.

Spent a week and a half there last elk season. The locals were very nice and helpful. If I had to move that would b it.

I was there for ten days in July, and I go every year in July. It's a college town, and all of the hunting and fishing you can handle within an hour drive. It's earthy, but there is also a large population of hunters and fisherman there. Within an hour drive of Missoula is some of the finest fly fishing the West has to offer. You need to find a place to live that you can store a drift boat. If you have a drift boat you can float the rivers and fish all summer and fall, and in the winter you can float lots of the same rivers and have excellent Mallard hunting. It will below zero, but it's fun! I have family that lives there, feel free to PM me if you have any questions. If you are a whitetail hunter it's paradise. Everyone out there Elk hunts and Mule deer hunts. For a boy from the south it can great whitetail hunting, and duck hunting!

I was there last year, if I could get my to leave her grand youngun we'd be there now.
loved it would move there in heartbeat if she would go, she said she would try it with tears in her eyes.

Montana may be the best kept secret for waterfowl hunting, plue awesome whitetails, mule deer, elk and 2nd to none pheasant hunting. That is where I plan to retire.

I hear you guys.....I know it's a beautiful place to visit. My concern is that I have know several people that have moved to "beautiful places" like Wyoming, Oregon, Colorado.......and after a couple of years they start "missing" the South.

i thought about going to school up there, but when i stepped of the plane on june 7th and it was snowing, i figured id better stay here.

My uncle lives in Missoula. Been there since he was bout 25. You'll just have to adjust. Cold snowy winters, with in what I would call perfect summers. It's incredible out there. People are different from what we're used to down here on the south. Fly fishing, rafting, climbing, elk, skiing, etc. All pluses to me. It's just you're personal preference.

I have a buddy that left Tupelo and moved up there. From all the reports, he absolutely loves it. Says the people are a little different, but overall it was a smart move for him and his wife.

If you have the oppertunity, Go for it. At least say you tried it and didn't like it, rather than didn't try it and wonder how it would have been. Heck, you may just love it!
