I sure hope the duck gods look down on me this year. Just moving down south from Mi I sure hope I can get some hunting in.

You've got probably the finest Smallmouth bass fishery right in your backyard. Not much for ducks - although Swan Creek WMA is near Decatur and not too far away. Send me a PM with your name and number - I'm just an hour west of you and I grew up in Huntsville.

They've got a pretty good football team in town as well. UNA is currently ranked #1 in the nation and they stand a pretty good chance of bringing a NC back to Florence this year. UNA is also the host site for the D2 National Championship, so wheather UNA is able to make it or not you'll get to see a good game Dec. 12.

Welcome to the state. I'm sorry you don't like the area though. I sent you a PM.

Speaking of UNA football, did you guys see Terry Bowden on the televised game last week? He must go a solid 250 lbs. May not be too much, but he only stands 5'5". Evidently, the food is pretty good in Florence. FAT Boy.

Have to agree with the duckter on the fishin, and not just the smallies either if you're into other species. I'm originally from about 40 min SW of there and it ain't so bad when you get used to it. Heck Florence used to be one of our main destinations to go out when we were younger. There's more to do there than most other places in the area. Welcome.

There is also a lot of good live music in that area.

Wilson Dam in Florence is one of the best places I have fished for catfish before they go to bed

Some of the best fishing in the world right there. Cats, stripe, smallies, large mouth, are all right there. Also some good deer hunting and turkey hunting in Northwest Alabama.
My old college roomie lives in Cherokee. His wife is from out West and started putting pressure on him to leave for a more metro area. He told me the damn Yankees couldn't move them off that mountain she sure as Hell wasn't going to.

I doubt he's going to be impressed by any smallmouth fishing coming from MI...several big lakes up there with piles of 'em.
You should definitely get in on some good ole delta ag duck/goose hunting while you're down here. AR, MS, and LA are loaded with it.
No way I could handle bama either...but mainly because I'd be proud about my purple and gold gear...
