Its not spring yet I know. It seems that every spring I have to fight the bloom and algea from taking over the lake. I usually buy Admiral or Aquashade to color the pond. Trying to get a head start this year and try to find some at a much more reasonable price. It runs around $30 a gallon at the Oktibbeha co-op. I usually need around forty gallons to get me through the summer. Just wondering what everyone else is using maybe there is something better and more cost effencient. Would love any all advice. Thanks,

reward is an aquatice glyphosate aka round up for water but you need to be careful with ponds you can kill of all the good algy which kills off all the trash you have. It will look good at first but then your problem will be worse than before. Aquashade is safe i would just stay with it.

Not an expert but have 2 ? can you draw it down in the winter and have you tried fertilizeing it?I pull our 10 acre pond down every winter and it help's alot with weed control and I start my fertilize program in late Febuary early March.I can darken my water and get good benifit's with fertilize. But I would check with someone who know's sometime's fertilize can hurt I think not for sure.Cost me $75 each time to do it around 4 time's so about $300 a yr.

kc,
What I would recommend depends on what you are trying to do with the pond. If it is purely for aesthetics, then go with the dye. If you are trying to grow fish, then pure fertilizer or a combination of both. I would guess that filamentous algae is your biggest problem in the spring. If that is the case, look at spraying some Cutrine-Plus; its a lot cheaper than reward. Using dye can get expensive, particularly in the spring with frequent rain events.
If you want to go dye only, most of the products that I used will cost you about the same. $30 is actually a very good price. I used to sell it for $50/gallon.
Also, how big is the pond?
Is the pond in the black belt?
Thanks,
Pond
