Our camp has been on a mgt program for about 4 years now.. Starting to see some payoff.. Couple of questions on age and score..
These 2 bucks were killed last night. The one on the left was the first buck for this guy and the one on the right was a deer that we got on camera in late Feb.. We are not sure if the bucks pictured are 2.5 and 4.5 or 3.5 and 5.5... At least not until we get the jaw bones data back..
So what do you think??

Don't know the weights of them. I'll see if I can find out. Killed in Simpson county just south of the Rankin County Simpson county line..
Here is a pic of a 3.5 year old buck I killed last year. He weight 156lbs. He was 14" inside spread.. The smaller buck was about 13" inside spread. So I am thinking that maybe the bucks are 2.5 and 4.5????.. According to our biologist 95% of 3.5 year old deer in our Soil Region will be 14" inside spread..

+1
i feel for sure he's 4.5 and the young deer could easily go either way but if he weighs under 130 he's gonna most likely be 2.5, that is the only way to tell imho.

Doesn't matter they're both dead--neither is a shooter!

Now that really depends on alot of things.....
Not everyone has the same standards. We would all like to kill a 150 class every year but that ain't happening.

Got the weights back the bucks the little one was 160 and the larger buck was 172. So I figure that makes hime 3.5 and 4.5...
The little buck was just below camp minimum on the spread, but this was the guys first buck and he was guest, so he did about a good a job at judging a buck on the hoof as you could expect a new hunter to do.. I would have passed on the smaller buck...
EWD, we gusstimaged the bigger buck at about 120-125... If he would have had any length to the brow tines he might have even made 135... The biggest typical buck killed in Simpson County is 155, its just not Big Buck Country. So a 125 class deer in a county where the record is 150 makes him a shooter to me..

Duckaholic I agree. Ewd, that is an @$$ hole statement if I ever heard one. People should be able to shoot what makes them happy without ridicule as long as it is within law and the guidelines of where the deer is taken.

I agree.. I mean that guy that shot that smaller buck was just as happy as the guy that shot the bigger buck.. Our camp guidelines are set up to keep us from shooting 2.5 year old deer and less. So far the last couple of years it has worked. We are seeing bigger deer come to the skinning shed, meaning people are passing up on the smaller younger bucks. I had my reservations about this camp after the first two years, the thing that kept we going out there is the family atmosphere and a good group of guys. So no, I'll probably never kill a 150 class deer out there, but that is fine with me as long as I have a good time I don't care.

Another one killed off our place.. The DMAP program seems to be showing good signs. This one was bedded down with a doe when the hunter spotted him..
We rough scored him at 124" What do you all think???
