I just bought a mallard machine a week or so ago. I used it this weekend and i was wondering how most of yall used it. It seemed to me that there were 2 ways. 1) just leaving it on 2) turning it on and off every second or so with the foot peddle to make them look like they are diving and coming back up.

Also, do yall use it when they are in the distant and then stop when they are right over you? I played around with it and couldnt seem to figure out what the ducks wanted.

did anyone have problems with the line breaking that attached the decoy to the arms? i did and i had to use nylon decoy string instead of that black rubber string.

We use ours for Movement in General.

Never really used one, we use jerk strings, (time tested). Mallard machines are for topwaters like you Buckwabit.

I dont put any decoys on the one we have. I use it to have water movement only. Prop it on the bottom at an angle to move more water. 2 jerk stings with that and you can get some movement. I hunt fields though.

thats not a bad idea. i like not putting the decoys on it

This weekend it will help keep the water in liquid form.

You actually had ducks...........? What they ducks want is a place to feed/rest that looks safe. Duplicate that, and you shouldn't have trouble getting them to finish. May require experimentation. Then once you think you figured-out what they want....they'll change. Fooling a duck is about your ability to adapt to the many variables that influence their behavior.......(i.e....to land or not to land - THERE).

I use the duck butts attached to mine and just bump it on and off to get movement.

We used ours when the ducks were spotted and working. when they get in close, turn it down. You could run it for a split second when they make their turn if the wind is dead, but we have decoys attacthed. When we turn it off, it looks like a spreader-stlye setup. Windy days, you dont need it anyway.

Use only when the birds are working around. You can not run it constant. Themodynamic, it will burn the motor up. the heat in the motor has no way to escape.
