I know this might be silly but have to ask while I got all this good help. Alright my pup is ten weeks, very energetic and strong retrieving drive but while just taking him to the restroom or casually walking, he'll pick up sticks, pine cones, ect... And try to bring them to me to throw for him. If I don't throw it he'll hold the item in his mouth and follow me around. How do I respond to this. All comments are appreciated.

Enjoy that the pups will hold anything and loves to retrieve.

sounds like a fun pup. I would nurture the retrieving desire by bringing a small white bumper out with you on your walks. When he's not toting around a pine cone or stick, toss it for him.

do this a few times and let him play with whatever is safe.

above all, have fun and limit structure at this age.

I know the country, and it's a bit of a challenge. But try to discourage objects that may be dangerous to him. Try to turn him on to something he likes to carry around, like a durable toy. For fetch objects, it's hard to beat paint rollers for young dogs.

You guys keep doing that very good job of being buddies!

I agree! when my chessie was a pup my dad got him hooked on dasani water bottles and my mom tied socks in a knot for him.....discourage this now while you can. Everytime i drink a bottled water or sit down to put my socks on he sits in front of me and stares and he is almost 3. And I can tell ya its expensive when he swallows a pine cone or stick! take a white bumper and zip tie some wings on it...works pretty good but again dont let him destroy it
