I am trying to find some .410 shells for my son.He SAYS he is ready to shoot a duck. He has a single shot 20 ga.But it kicks the hell out of him.I bought a browning skeeter tube that allows him to shoot a .410 shell thru the gun.But the shells [non-toxic or steel]]are extremely hard to find.Mack's Prarie wings carries them {bismuth} in the catalog but they are on back order 2 months.Haven't had much luck finding them in memphis. He is only 7 yr old and I do not want to push him into the 20 ga. shells,'cause they do kick pretty hard in his little single shot 20 ga.I tried them myself. A little help would be appreciated.

Do him a favor and purcahse him a 20 ga auto. This is a gun he can grow into. Then to give him a sporting chance use light loads and an improved cylinder at birds inside 30 yards. Even for an adult shooting ducks with a .410 is trick shooting. I shot skeet for years (all Guages) and the margin of error for hitting or not hitting a target is very small. boost his confidence and give him a sporting chance (auto = reduced recoil).

try buck and bass or guns and ammo on summer. was in bass pro shop saturday and didnt see any there.

I don't know where to get the shells, I ordered them way in advance last year, but I don't think you should bump him up to a 20 gauge. My son, 7 last year, used a single shot .410 last year and I thought he did great. He wing shot several birds, and I let him skillet shoot a few more. I was really surprised by the wing shots (about 10).

This year he has moved up to a .20, but still a single shot. I think a pump or auto at age 8 is a little dangerous for me and the others in the blind. I can watch him shoot that first shot with the single .20; then, I can start shooting without worrying about any more shots coming from his gun. It also makes him concentrate on that shot. He knows it is his first and last and takes his time making the shot.

20 gauge auto is the way to go. Hey, you don't have to put more than one shell in at a time, but you give hime some room to grow, too. I used an auto for 3 years before my Daddy let me put more than one shell in it! Then, he let me put in two! Made me make that shot count...and it skillet shot with the best of them.

Let me know if you find any 410 shells. I have been looking some for my son for a couple of months.

found some in memphis,almost fell out with a heart attack when I heard the price. $42 for a box of 25 shells ,I am still in shell shock myself.gonna have to put my boy on alot more cornbread,peas, and I guess steriods I guess.wheeeeeew! He Will be shooting a 20 ga. next yr.He is already getting a marlin 22 for xmas this yr.1 gun is enough.thanks for the advice Think i 'll go have my $42 /box heart attack now!!!

Got mine at Van's in Brandon last year for $37 a box. He shot three boxes. The gun was cheaper than those three boxes of shells.

Oak Tree Outdoors has the 410 ga Bismuth for 12.99 a box He is in Southaven on Goodman Rd. I am not sure what the ph # is but give them a call. They had about 20 boxes this morning.

I know that several have said to give the kids a 20 ga auto, but my boy is 6 and I think Deltaduk's is too. That's too much gun for a youngster that old IMO.

Delta go to your gunsmith and have them install a Mercury Tube in the butt of the gun. It will reduce the recoil up to 50%

Get your son a 28 gauge. More pop than a 410, but not as much as a 20 gauge. They are used alot up north for upland game hunting.

thanks torch ,I'll check on that mercury tube.is that anything like the "de-acellerator"pad .I've heard of it,and the gunsmith mentioned it???
