Big West Baton Rouge Parish Buck

Postby MudHog » Mon Feb 01, 2010 8:32 am

Got this in an email from a co-worker. Taken from Big Cypress, LLC property in West Baton Rouge Parish. Don't have the weight, but I have the score results. Beings yall always try to score deer from pictures, take a stab at this one and I'll post the results I have later.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess its a 170 class buck, but I am in no way a scoring expert or even much of a trophy deer hunter. I will say its bigger than any buck I've ever seen or shot at. I'm just comparing to some of the bucks on the Magnolia records site.

With all the stickers, yep that's at least 170. I'll guess 177.
Never assume.

that certainly sucks. I had tried to pull up info on this place before I posted it, but couldn't find anything on the property.

Might as well have been hunting in a zoo. 1000 acres or not, the deer have no where to go. I don't consider that hunting. Just killing.

HAHA Well, I'm not ashamed of my personal feelings on the subject, not saying that you are either, but I understand. I just don't think it's an ethical way to hunt deer. Once they're in there, they're not going anywhere and you just watch him grow up til he's big enough to shoot. Might as well have him tied to a tree in your backyard and hand feed him.

nice buck... but i agree that 1000 acres too small to high fence... 10k+ maybe ok to high fence... i have no problem fencing property lines with a low or single wire fence..

Well, I thought it was obvious we were talking about a high fence here. Of course it's ok to have a barbed wire fence or some other type of low fence around a place that deer can easily move about as they wish.

While we're talking about big OOS deer, I got this one in an e-mail just a few minutes ago. Said he was killed in Russell County, AL near Marvyn. What do yall think he scored? I thought it was bigger than what the e-mail said myself.

Nah, might oughta wait a year or two and let him grow into a 190" or 200" deer and get yourself a new state record. Be the same as what those boys down in LA have done essentially.
