i use a fawn bleat and a rabbit squeel depending on the setup. But i am not a conventional predator hunter and more interested in birds now.

just be careful blowing the predator calls before dark though - because when they come in after the sun sets and you are holding just a bow - it can make the hair on your neck stand up.

someone needs to kill predators though.

I watched a guy do it in the flat lands of Colorado on TV last week. He used a boombox electronic call with a pole. The pole had what looked like an old coon skin cap on it. It wiggled too  He usually put the box out in a spot where he had a good shot down wind. He kept the box near him if he was afraid that he would get busted walking out into a field. A semi automatic AR15 would be the best gun because, as previously stated, they never stop.
Like everything else wind is the key.

Set up somewhere with an good open spread between you and the woods. You have a little better than 0% chance of actually shooting one if you're in thick brush because they'll circle around to wind you and you'll never see him. The only time I've ever heard of someone shooting one in the woods is when they're out doing something else (deer hunting) and just happen to cross paths with the yote.

A robo-furry motion decoy thing at the very edge or the woods would be a big help because it will get their attention away from you and hopefully throw their circling routine off. Walk in to wherever you are going to set up rather than riding an ATV. Any distress call will do about as well as another, though if you get no results from one, try another.

I think a generally accepted approach to calling is that if you don't get any action within 30 minutes, move on to another location because the coyote isn't coming (or has already come and winded you before you could see him). Some folks say call nearly continuously during your stand, other say call for little 1-2 minute periods, let it rest 5 minutes, then call again, repeat.

They educate very quickly so if you call one up, kill him: he won't come back to that call again. You're going to be both frustrated and impressed with how smart these things are.

I found out last week we have a season, check your state. The fox pro deal works pretty good. I haven't learned the tricks yet but they have given good advice. I try to find a block of winds on the down wind side and place the call between myself and the woods. I guess thats the good part about the flat land not much of a way to circle.
