Has any of you La or Ms boys been on it? Fished Duck hunted or just rode on it? Im Bout to buy me a 16 to 18 ft wide boat with a GTL mud motor and I have always wanted to cruise it. I work offshore so I got lots of cajun buds down there and I thought maybe we could get a ride up one day.

I lived in Baton Rouge the year that hurricane Andrew hit. A friend of mine had a camp on the Atchafalya River south west of BR. We boated down to his camp to check on things a few days after the hurricane. The camp had minor damage but there was a huge fish kill due to tanic acid from all the tree leaves in the water. I've never seen so many dead fish in my life.
I never hunted or fished on it but they did kill some ducks from time to time.

Just figured it would be a cool place to ride on. Maybe wet a hook. If im not mistaken I think my buddies brother has a lease down there and he said they kill a good many greyducks.

What you want to know?
I'm in New Iberia and am in the basin all the time. I have crawfish traps and duck hunted last year in Crewboat Chute which is out of Charenton. Fished alot in Bayou Benoit around Coteau Holmes. Frequently fish Bayou Boutte and Duck Lake out around Garden City. I never go much in Henderson, but my boss lives in Butte La Rose. My new blind is in Lake Fausse Point which is across the protection levee. It's been a long time since I've been to Stevensville, but alot of the MMT people are out in the Morgan City area.
Oh yea, I fish Millers Chute, Buffalo Cove, Mud Cove, The Beehive, the list goes on.

Just rode around in it once last summer with my girlfriend's dad. I'll ride it again with a shotgun or a jig pole SOON. Beautiful place.

The basin is a treasure of Louisiana. It is a really neat place. I haven't spent near the amount of time I would like to in there but have been a few times. It's probably the best place in the state to see a Louisiana Black bear in the wild. You don't have to have a mud motor to do in there. In fact I would guess the majority of people don't use mud motors in there. THe closer you get to the wax the more a MM is useful. Everytime I've been in there its been by outboard. Have fun

Hit pigeon and get the spinning rod a cork and a sac-a-lait jig and fill up the ice chest. I grew up fishing that place.

You don't need a mud motor for sure. Now it's been a long time since I've been at the southern part, but alot of mud motor folks run that area, but when we fished Stevensville it was in a 16' semi-v with a 1980 50 Merc on it.
I can take you back in some places inthe basin where you will see some of the most pristine waters that you never thought was possible in the basin. There also some fungus that grows in the backwoods that people harvest and eat. Has to be in the backwoods area as the fungus absorbs the air and if there is alot of traffic it absorbs alot of outboard exhaust and can be deadly.
For the record, The Atchafalya Delta and Wax Lake Outlet are the ONLY 2 places in LA that are building coastline. The MS River is doing nothing for the LA coast. Wax Lake is out of the basin, but it is feed by water from the basin via the Calumette Cut.

Used to fish the north basin up around Henderson with my pops when I was a kid...great fishing. Used to bass fish it when I was at LSU a good bit. It's one of my absolute favorite places to be. The place is beautiful. I duck hunted up north of Henderson swamp in the timber (Indian Bayou) and did ok here and there. My experience was the duck hunting was never that great until pretty late in the season. I haven't been out there in 8-9 yrs...too long.
