by chance
Next spring, the Southern Flight Grand, will be our ten year anniversary hunt. I watched the bye dog run and looked at the crowd Saturday nite and could not help but remember back to our prelim. How far we have come, Southern Flight!
You guys have made one of the old guys very proud.
There's too many to name and give credit, but, there is one person who really made all of this happen. He never gets the press time he deserves, nor does he want it for that matter. He has given every time he has been asked and sometimes we take him for granted. Sometimes we make jokes about him. Sometimes he deserves it. I will tell you this, without him, there may never have been a Southern Flight Hunting Retriever Club.
Who? Steve Vires of OnLine Labs. Believe it or not, he brought all of us old guys to the first meeting. He wasn't by himself at the start, but he is one of the only one's left. He has opened up his training grounds time after time for training days. He has put up with all of our shenanigans and still lets us come back.
I want to personally thank the crusty old hermit for all he has done. For he surely started all of this mess.

Chance you said it all right there . Thanks to steve for giving us lots of good handlers because of him there are so many good handlers in our area if you can take what he will tell you and not get mad sometimes you will be able to run and have fun doing so. Thanks for this post

next spring will be our 10th year anniversary of hunt tests... but we chartered as a club w/ hrc and ukc in march of 2000, and started meetings of Southern Flight in Sept of 1999. So this fall will be our anniversary hunt everyone has wanted and asked for... its our 'around' 10 year anniversary... 9 to 12 however ya wanna count, so this fall is close nuff to 10 to call it an anniversary.
Steve posted on ms ducks about a new club, and thats what made me go to that first meeting. And he got colt out at our 'first' training day, and forever changed my life when i saw that dog run. Theres a lot of things that could have went different, and we'd still be where we're at. But if it wasn't for steve and colt, there'd be nothing else. That i agree whole hartedly. When he was honored summer before last with an honary lifetime membership, he just laughed and said, hell I never remember to pay dues anyway! ha. travis

I believe most of us new members joined due to a training day at vires place. What a great time we had and still have each time. Think about how many membership applications have been filled out at those training days, i'd be willing to bet a large percentage of our club wither filled out or got the application right there!

Thanks to all of you at southern flight for getting me into this game and expecially Trey Edwards for giving me a great dog and Steve Vires for getting her to where she is today. I would never have been in this sport without you guys. I had a great time this weekend seeing everyone that are mine and Kim friends and the new ones we met.

LOL, Uncle Steve reminds me just about everytime I see him how big of a mistake I made giving away Abby. His exact words were "Biggest Mistake of your Life" But honestly, it is something I will never regret, like most, my best friends are ones that I have met thru the HRC, and you and Kim are high on that list, all because of this website and an ol black dog that likes her ears rubbed. Know if I can only talk you into putting that Pink Pimp Hat back on and let Nash come calling.

I too was one of those that got the bug down at Vires place. I grew up down there, even played in what used to be a swamp (now a tech pond) as a kid. All I can say is I am glad he was not down there when I was growing up, I probally would not be the same

but then again it wouldn't have hurt.
Thanks Steve for all you do for SFHRC.
