Griff Update

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I updated everyone about Griff. He's had a pretty tough month of treatment just because of all the early Thursday morning bone marrow aspirations and spinal taps. He is handling everything extremely well. He has grown up so much do to this whole experience. He is such a brave little boy. He has gotten to where he tells the nurses where he wants them to stick him with the needles and finger pokers. He barely even whimpers anymore. The anesthesia that they use to put him to sleep for the bone marrow aspirations and spinal tap makes him ill as a hornet.

We've hit a small snag right now. He is in the hospital. He started running a temp last night and I had to bring him over at about 12:00 last night. He's on IV anti-biotics and his fever is dropping. We will prolly only be here another day or so. No big deal.

He is now in full remission. They performed a Minimal Residual Disease lab test on his bone marrow which is a very detailed cell count and analysis. The MRD tells them whether or not he has a very small amount of cancer cells left in his marrow that could go undetected by human eyes. The lab results showed 0% cancer cells. Thanks for all your prayers. Through your petitions to The Master, you are all a part of his healing.

Just a reminder. You can follow along with Griff's progress at his caring bridge website:

or you can go to the Caring Bridge website and type "griffithsykes" in the "Visit a Website" search field.

That is wonderful news. I am sure the fever will be corrected with the antibiotics.

I am truly amazed by the power of prayer from everyone on here and just in general. I will continue to pray for Griff and your family and hope all things continue to go well for you.

dude, that's great news!!!

i know the fevers can be worrisome, but as bad as it is to say, it's just part of the "program" and par for the treatment course.

don't know if you remember my little cousin and her own treatment at batson or not, but last week she had her chemo port permanently removed.......

tell griff to just keep on keepin on....

Justin,

That's outstanding news about your little cousin. I understand about the fevers. I've pretty much been told to get used to the idea of being in and out of the hospital.
