My main focus at first was to to strip the mantle. I may never take a challenge like this on again with out being able to take it outside / to a shop to work on it.
I was surprised to find it was pine also.

I would like to go back in time to shake the hand of the SOB that shelacked this mantle. Once the majority of paint was off, I could wipe the rest off with denatured alcohol.

Missing some pics somewhere, but skip forward to paint and crown molding.

Heart pine floors stained with Antique Walnut stain, 2 coats of gloss poly for strength, and 2 coats of satin for looks and cause it shows scratches less than gloss.

Have yet to put the bull's eyes back on the mantle.
