How much is the fine for shooting lead shot? Me and my neighbor were discussing it last night and I thought it was $25.00 per shell and he said it was $250.00, no matter how much you have on you. I figure neither of us are correct.

I guess.

The last guy I caught with lead I also wrote for no fed stamp, no state stamp, shooting after hours and unlawful possession of ducks. I think he ended up contributing over a grand to that particular county when it was all said and done.

It seems that possession of toxic shot is usually only one of several violations.

Look there is a 1/5 of Four Roses and wagered on this and the looser has to hunt with a single shot 20ga one day, where can i go to maybe find an answer?

Scenario,

Warden meets hunter at duck blind and hunter has a partly used box of turkey loads and the empty hulls to make up the rest, indicating he took 10 lead shot shells to the duck blind. The hunter has all the proper license and stamps and no other citation could be written. What would the fine be?

Doc, I think its somewhat discretionary. I think the judge has the ultimate decision based upon evidence from Warden and previous violations that may be on your record. I'm sure there is a min. and max penalty. You trying to decide if its worth paying the piper aren't you. Nah I'm a little curious myself

49-7-101. General fines and penalties.
(1) Unless a different or other penalty or punishment is specially prescribed, a person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter or any law or regulation for the protection of wild animals, birds, or fish, or who fails to perform any duty imposed by such laws or regulations, or who violates or fails to comply with any lawful order, rule or regulation adopted by the commission is guilty of a Class III violation and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) nor more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00). In addition thereto, such person is liable, in the discretion of the court, to an additional penalty of Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) for each animal, bird, or fish, or part thereof, or each nest or egg of any bird taken, possessed, or transported in violation of such law or regulation.

Chapter 49 covers the game and fish laws for the state of Mississippi

Does not say you can charge a person for each shell.........this is state law....the federal law may be different. But under state it is a class III violation with a 25-100 dollar fine

OK, So 100.00 plus another 25.00 per bird. that works out to 250 if you get your limit. Looks like I lost a 1/5 of four roses... Oh well....

Not necessarily. I believe Fed law supercedes State law if it is more stringent.

In arkieland it was always 100 bucks the first bullet, 25 for everyone after that, including hulls. Making your first box $700 and $625 a box for each addational one. For 25 bucks, nobody wudda every stopped shooting it. Heck, at 700 bucks, it was years before anyone did. travis
