Does anyone know the story behind what is going on there? I heard it is closed down to fishing and when it reopens it will some type of public duck hunting were you pay to hunt.

It was shut down five or so years ago. It is going to reopen at some point as a WMA. I would think the hunting would be draw just like the others. I think there is supposed to be 40 acres for fishing. Havent heard of an opening, i dont think it will be anytime soon.

Man I must be getting old, I remember back in the 70's we used to tear the big bass up there, then it closed and reopened a while back and closed again. WMA seems the best senario. Johnny Brister used to flood a rice field next to it, and OH it would get hot at times. Used to hunt it with a Vet. friend of mine.

my dad had two fish @ 8 lbs or better on the wall from there and countless pictures from those days...he used to say the moss and hydrilla got so thick you couldnt run a motor but if you could fight it with an paddle or push pole the fishing was hot

Im 32 yrs old and have caught fish there but it seems they are constantly draining it, digging it out or repairing it...plus it always seemed to be windy as hell

heard tales of the ducks before they damed it up but have never hunted it or near it

That's the way it was in the 70's. There used to be a run about 3/4 across from the landing and you could work a stick bait in there just under the surface before the moss grew too bad in the spring. You had to hang on. :o :o :o Had a number over 7 but no 8's but I saw some caught there were WALL HANGERS

I don't remember running into one up there. I know we probably did, since you had to sign in and out.

The 2 around Greenville during this time were Potter and Simpson. I don't know if they went that far north or not.

There will be about a 40 acre lake located in the northeast corner, levee's been pulled to form the lake, not sure when they'll open the lake but it won't be anytime soon.

The rest of the lake will be a WMA and open to duck hunting. Haven't heard any specifics but draw will be my guess. Too small a place to just let folks run wild. They are moving dirt and pulling levees in the "duck hunting" area now. Should be good hunting once opened. Not sure on dates though.

Hope that helps a little, thats all I really know
